It's no secret that smoking causes lung cancer. But what about diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, erectile dysfunction? Fifty years into the war on smoking, scientists still are adding diseases to the long list of cigarettes' harms - even as the government struggles to get more people to kick the habit.
A new report from the U.S. Surgeon General's office says the nation is at a crossroads, celebrating decades of progress against the chief preventable killer but not yet poised to finish the job.

It’s all about owning the masses. And government is intent on owning us.
Funny how “causes” promoted by the government always lead to more taxes or efforts to legitimize them.
...and we bitches be der witches...
Outlaw “smoking” and force all nicotine addicts to use e-cigs, which can easily be regulated by FDA as a drug delivery device.
The first and only time I ever inhaled anything like that was in college when a bunch of us were driving about 40 miles away for a party. A couple of guys in the back seat lit up a couple of joints. I opened up the window as I was sitting in the front passenger seat. Everyone else thought it was cool. I was not amused. When we got to the party I decided that people who would make me feel that uncomfortable were not worth having as friends. I got a ride home with someone else and never did hang around with them again.
You know what else is bad for citizenry health? Liberalism.
Obviously we all know that poverty and inequality affect people’s health. The surgeon general should be warning people about the affects of liberalism on their health. And THAT’S contagious!
Yep.
Expecting to hear next that Glowbull warming causes smoking, Smoking causes Glowbull warming, Smoking causes the Polar Vortex, etc...
They’re working it! Remember aerosol cans nearly killed the earth until they banned them.
Prohibition Amendment II?
Yeah, that’ll work.
You won’t see a ban on them, they bring in to much taxes.
Now if they packaged MMJ the same way and sold and charged taxes that high to the ‘medical’ use demanders. They might get some where.
Heck I was told the are also turning it into an oil you can bake with!
While some states made it medical legal, it is still illegal for non patients. And since Fed Law trumps states, the medical is ILLEGAL TOO.
For the anti smoking PC crowd, under the fairness clause of the Constitution, you should build smokers you banished outside in bad weather a heated/ AC shelter, and a lunch room just for them.
I never understood why people want to give so much money in taxes to the gov’t to waste.
I watched both my parents die of lung cancer, they smoked. Had a friend who died of it too, she nor her husband smoked a day in their lives. So who is right?
Next are you going to make me have stomach reduction surgery because you the gov’t consider me obese at 118 for a 5’ woman? One size does NOT fit all, I have large muscle mass. Muscle is heavier than fat. I wear a size 6 in jeans and still have to put tucks in the waist band, as 5’s are hip hugger rags the yuppies wear, and a 10 in button down top.
Smoking and drinking usually go together and the women ranted about smoking and drinking until they got their way.
?????
Sounds like the ‘scientific ’ pitch regarding global warming.
If warm weather doesn't scare people enough because they like warm temperatures then claim it will make the temperature colder.
Benefits like getting fired, or prosecuted under the UCMJ and thrown out of the military?
Why in the world do we even have a “Surgeon General”?
It’s all a scam to control the masses.
Propaganda.
Here’s an idea, rather than wasting BILLIONS of our dollars on yet another prohibition that won’t work... We instead put that money into medical research to fix that litany of health problems?
Seems to me, we’d have designer-cloned replacement lungs by now if they hadn’t gone all Health Nazi on us.
Big brother, is that you?
What’s with this “force” people to do anything crapola?
I will never understand why pot is ok but tobacco is not.
