“I liked the guy. A lot. Until he went wobbly on me.”

There is nothing wrong with Tom Coburn’s conservative credentials. The problem many here on FR don’t understand is that Tom Coburn is a (balanced) conservative statesman. He is a fiscal watchdog without being a Tea Party ideologue. There is NOTHING “wobbly” about that. We need more “statesmen” in both houses of congress.

I haven’t always agreed(did not understand) with Tom’s positions...but I trust him, and know he has a good reason for them.

I get so tired of extremists here on FR belittling good “balanced conservatives” serving in congress.

Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. Maybe you’re on the wrong website.

Thank you for saying that. A lot of us feel the same way.

“Balanced conservative” now?

Run that by the Founding Fathers and see what we get. They will probably quote James 1:8 in response.

Balanced Conservative is code for “Liberal”

When Coburn supported Amnesty Liberal John McCain early in 2008 primary season, I knew Coburn was a bought and paid for mule

Conservatives want leaders and leadership...not someone who works with Liberals like Coburn did these past few yrs

Glad he is going. We can do better and deserve it. He turned too liberal for my liking especially for a deep red state.

Tom Coburn is a (balanced) conservative statesman

We can't afford "balanced conservatives". A true conservative will stand on principle for constitutional conservative principles, and articulate them in a way people will support. There are no "balanced liberals" because they stand by their principles and win every time.

We would've won this budget battle and ended the funding of ObamaCare and the mandate if it weren't for "balanced conservatives", whom I prefer to describe as backstabbing hypocrites.

I don't know Coburns record. Did he stand by Ted Cruz on all four votes, and speak in his support during the 21 hours? Is he unequivocal in his opposition to the invasion of the US? Did he vote against the past few votes to cave on budget cuts? If he is solid on all of those things, my statements do not apply to him.
