U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn will finish out the current congressional session and then resign from his seat nearly two years before his term is scheduled to end, he said in a statement released late Thursday. [ ]
Coburn, a physician from Muskogee, recently was diagnosed with a recurrence of prostate cancer, but said his decision was not about his health.

“Start looking for a solid conservative replacement NOW.”
Yes, before Rove swoops in to nominate another RINO.
I would imagine the tragic death of his son, combined with the recurrence of his prostate cancer put his priorities in a new, differ ent and sharper perspective.
The old timers from both parties appear to have become sickened by the corrupt, America-hating Congress that we have now.
Are you referring to Senator Inhofe, whose son died Nov. 10, 2013 in a plane crash?
I liked the guy. A lot. Until he went wobbly on me.
Exactly. You know the RINOs are already circling.
Godspeed to Senator Tom Coburn as he transitions into the next chapter of his life. He has cared for his patients, delivered thousands of babies, and fought the good fight for conservatives. Time to take care of himself.
I am sure Trump would accept the spot if he doesn’t have to go through a primary. He wants annointed.
lol
I have a sneaking suspicion that Oklahomans would not take too kindly to a carpetbagger from New Yawk City.
:p
“I liked the guy. A lot. Until he went wobbly on me.”
There is nothing wrong with Tom Coburn’s conservative credentials. The problem many here on FR don’t understand is that Tom Coburn is a (balanced) conservative statesman. He is a fiscal watchdog without being a Tea Party ideologue. There is NOTHING “wobbly” about that. We need more “statesmen” in both houses of congress.
I haven’t always agreed(did not understand) with Tom’s positions...but I trust him, and know he has a good reason for them.
I get so tired of extremists here on FR belittling good “balanced conservatives” serving in congress.
J.C. Watt comes readily to mind.
“Start looking for a solid conservative replacement NOW.”
Oklahoma has abundant “solid conservatives” both old and young.
Who can blame Coburn? Washington is broken beyond repair. He recommended $250 BILLION in easy cuts the GOP should get behind...and instead they spend $1.1 TRILLION on a 1,500-page bill they didn’t read, while screwing vets and rewarding illegals. What’s the point of staying?
“J.C. Watt comes readily to mind.”
Julius Caesar Watts is through with politics.
From the article: His resignation is certain to draw the interest of a deep bench of ambitious Republicans in Oklahoma. State law requires the governor to call a special election in the case of a vacancy.
Jim Bridenstine: You Okies gotta do two things ... get him in the Senate (he's another Ted Cruz) ... and find another on like him to fill the Oklahoma First Congressional seat!
You owe it to yourselves and your country!
Cutting veterans benefits, amnesty, fixing instead of repealing ObamaCare, spending like drunken Democrats, war against the TEA Party...
Can someone tell me what the point of the Republican Party is?
Besides the few conservative candidates what is the point for voting for the Republican Party?
Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. Maybe you’re on the wrong website.
