DALLAS COUNTY, AL (WSFA) -
A tense ordeal inside a Dollar General store in Orrville ended with a gunman dead at the hands of a customer who took action. The fatal shooting happened around 12:45 p.m. Thursday on Highway 22.
Dallas County Sheriff Harris Huffman Jr. says the gunman walked into the store waving a gun in the air and forced a cashier and customer at gunpoint towards a break room area. At that point, the customer pulled out a concealed weapon and shot the suspect in the chest once. The gunman was pronounced dead at the scene. The entire incident played out in less than five minutes, police said.
According to the sheriff, other customers and delivery men were inside the store at the time of the incident. Several customers making their way into the store saw the man waving a gun and ran away.
The Dollar General store was closed Thursday afternoon following the shooting. A sign on the front door indicated it would reopen Friday. WSFA was asked to leave the property by Dollar General management.
There was another sign on the doors of the business stating that open carry of a weapon was not allowed inside the store. According to the sheriff, the customer's gun was concealed and inside a holster. His investigators are confirming whether or not the customer has a valid concealed carry permit.

I think it is time I read more of his books.
Absolutely, once a gunman is going to put you in a car trunk, a store room ,a van, etc. It is time to fight for your life. How many times have we seen that scenario end badly where they think they are going to get locked in and it is an execution.
That is a good law! Of course, that essentially means that Tennessee has Constitutional carry for the smart and responsible people who don’t wave their concealed weapons around like idiots. And anyone who uses the weapon for something other than self-defense is going to be charged with much more serious crimes than carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
I like that law. Any chance of making it federal?
Very few people are kidnapped for ransom. Usually a kidnapping ends in the murder of the victim.

Give the Dollar General customer a large gift certificate and a box of cigars.
If it were up to me, I would extend that law to ALL citizens, ex-cons and all. After all, should even an ex-con have the right to self defense?
is this just another example of not messin with Texas? dont these criminals have any idea of what %% of Texan’s have guns?
Wasn’t in Texas.

Important note: see the huge advantage the cc holder had, even over a perp who was brandishing?
Imagine the tactics of the situation. The cc holder could look for an opening, had the element of surprise, could choose the time to act, and followed Tuco’s rule(*)

Concealed carry radically increases the ‘degree of difficulty’ of armed crime.
/ sarc, in case it's needed. I'd hope not by now.
That was some mighty fine shooting. One shot, no question, DRT.
My SOP when carrying my 9mm is (barring special circumstances) if I shoot, I shoot #1 center mass and immediately follow up with #2 to the head. Then I'll evaluate the target. I figure the center mass is the high percentage shot, while the head shot has the biggest chance of stopping the perp in their tracks. If I'm carrying my .45 (a full size S&W stainless 1911) I'll go with just the center-mass shot then evaluate.
Great .. the owner just told the crooks .. it’s okay, we don’t have any people in here who can shoot you.
STUPID!!!
Read a little further. The prohibition was against OPEN carry only. They apparently didn’t care if you kept quiet and kept the gun out of sight.
One shot only. Well done.
They should give you a medal, but all you'll get is the media harassing you, and the post-adrenaline-dump blues.
It's OK. The Lord knows you did the right thing, and so do many of your fellow Alabamians.
Article indicates this was not a robbery, what the heck was going on? Domestic? Disgruntled employee?
“Article indicates this was not a robbery, what the heck was going on? Domestic? Disgruntled employee?”
Even more reason to take him off the count. Somebody was going to be killed and it’s best it was the perp.
These people need to be called what they are.
Elitist Pigs.
Wonder why they didn't comment on the bad guy having disobeyed the "open carry" sign?
