Pot-smoking travelers at one Colorado airport who need to ditch their stash before boarding can deposit their marijuana in an "amnesty box."
The boxes began cropping up at Colorado Springs Airport on Wednesday to give passengers unaware it is illegal to carry pot on a plane the opportunity to dump their weed, The Gazette newspaper reported.
While Colorado legalized recreational marijuana use on Jan. 1, major airports in the state have banned it on their facilities to comply with federal agencies, which still consider it illegal.

Greg Phillips, aviation director of the Eagle County Airport near Vail, said the facility is considering amnesty boxes. A signage plan is also in the works.
For now, anyone caught with cannabis will be asked to remove it from the property or hand it over to officials.
What we dont want is them throwing it in the trash can, Phillips said. Then you have other people digging through the garbage.

I doubt if people will fly there just to smoke. It’s not like the stuff is not available anywhere else.

I don’t know. People used to travel to Amsterdam for the legal pot. I’m sure some marketing geniuses will come up with travel and vacation plans for the doper crowd.
TSA agents, mostly................
TSA score!
Then you have other people digging through the garbage.
Beats working for a living.
“Amnesty Box”
A key component in the “Free Dope For Airport Employees” program.
SO back in 86 I was working in Alaska and they had hired some crack head for janitorial work. We were on the graveyard shift and it was pretty slow so he comes over to me and asks if I have any weed. I asked him back how come he didn’t bring any with him as it was obvious he was presently under the influence of some narcotic at that very moment.
He replied that he figured since weed was green it would show up as a dark mass in screening so all he brought was a thermos full of crystal meth because it was white and wouldn’t show up in the x-ray!
I kid you not!
I'm in the Navy and we still have amnesty boxes on the pier when we pull into foreign ports. They're available for when you sober up on the liberty bus back to the ship and realize you bought something out in town that you probably shouldn't have.
...i’ve heard a minimum of several months to reach undetectable levels - better assume 3-4...
....i have not experience in these matters, mind you...
In the Army the amnesty box was for all kinds of stuff, drugs, knives, illegal combs, booze, guns, whatever.
Army customs would also use amnesty boxes for troops returning from Europe before they were searched.
Oh, ok, so now TSA will be tokin while burgling our luggage.
This year the feds also recognize same sex marriage on tax returns. If we’re trying to make God mad, we’re doubtless going about it correctly.
