SAN ANTONIO A proposed high speed rail between San Antonio and Monterrey is in the works.
One lawmaker says it would revolutionize trade and travel between the U.S. and Mexico and pump more tourism dollars into the local economy.
On Thursday, Representative Henry Cuellar will meet with the Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx along with state and Mexican officials to discuss the proposed rail system.
Instead of paying for a round-trip airline ticket to Monterrey from San Antonio which can cost at least $400 Cuellar said a commuter could hop on a high-speed train and travel between the two cities in less than two hours.

Mulipart of two episodes.
Nice apples to oranges comparison. I'm sure the lieutenant governor will have the train go through Rock Ridge.
" opponents wonder who will foot the bill?"
"I think one of our challenges is where will we come up with the money," said Cuellar.
Think of the money they can save. They’d only need to run the trains one way.
Rock Ridge!
It’s nearly forty years since those varmints messed with that town.
I’ll go get the Sheriff!
LOL.
How about High Speed Rafts.... From Cuba.. to Florida, WHILE WERE AT IT?
There must be some clinical name for the obsession communists have with trains.
Terrible idea! That’s all I’m seeing lately.
SAN ANTONIO -
*Northside Independent School District Superintendent Brian Woods is proposing a $648.34 million bond for the district.
*They are tearing down a school that is less than 10 years old to build a new, larger one in the same spot. Wasted a few million there.
*San Antonios total debt tops $9.4 billion.
What in the Sam Hill are these jackazzes doing?! trying to be frickin’ LA? And I’m sure everybody remembers this :

Of course, the same way airplanes stop for hours at the border.
This sounds like a great idea. Just so long as the Texans and Mexicans don’t expect me to pay for any of it.
Wow!! I am SOLD! Are the tix going to be free, just like healthcare? At least I'm sure those choo-choos can undercut those awful aluminum tubes in the sky by 50% and maybe even 75%. That's Dem economics for you: "we wish it and it becomes true."
They just compared $$ to travel time, apples and mangoes.
I hope people don't fall for this crap
Since the vast majority of the line will be in Mexico I’m sure Mexico will provide the majority of the funding. I can’t see Texas paying for it.
What a stupid idea. Rather than the cancer finding its own path into the illegal alien mothership, we’ll provide them a high speed train.
maybe a project like this would keep a whole bunch of wetbacks in mexico
Only certain people in Austin and around the border.
Really. Tourism dollars? I didn’t realize San Antonio was high on the list of tourist hotspots for Mexicans or Monterey being high on the list of tourist destinations for San Antonians. Not only are those two cities just popular tourist meccas but they are SO popular they need a 100 billion dollar high speed fixed route rail subsidized by American tax payers.
That's strange. With what 800 miles of a very porous border, I never knew Texas and Mexico were NOT just a little linked already.
DUMB headline.
I was thinking of El Paso right on the border. May the Mexicans will pay half since it will benefit them more?
