It turns out that Senator Tom Coburn is a big supporter of Mark Levins new book The Liberty Amendments. When asked last night about this new 1000 plus page spending bill and the fact that the Senate will vote on it before anyone gets a chance to read it, Sen. Tom Coburn told Mark Levin that you cant prevent this stuff from happening because all we have is a bunch of career politicians who only care about getting reelected. He says the only way to fix Washington is for the states to convene a Convention of the States and limit their power, something he definitely supports.

Has that ever been done before? I don't even think there is jurisdiction for that. Once it's passed, the Supremacy Clause makes it out of reach to be overturned by a ruling from SCOTUS. The only thing the SCOTUS could do is find some definitional wiggle room around its implementation, but that should be addressed in the language of the amendment.
Maybe some of the other proposed amendments might have w

With the 27th Amendment, yes. A congressman sued to prevent a salary grab by Congress after the 27th was enacted in 1992, and the courts ruled that he had no standing. Since then, the 27th has been in a kind of legal limbo.
“I think its the way you phrased it.”
Really?
It was an accurate statement if one know the Constitution.
Don’t you wish Bohner would pull stuff like that on Dems?
Sorry for the terse sounding reply, I had alot of incoming when you pinged me.
Here’s an example of what I was getting at, on minimum wage Dems keep beating that drum because raising it is so popular, most employer mandates are popular with to many Americans.
So on every show when confronted Republicans reply that it will kill jobs.
But on tax increases they kept on saying that it will kill jobs too. They kept on saying that in 2012 and it didn’t work.
They keep on replying with that over and over year after year like robots, and yet minimum wage polls pretty high, even with Republicans, its obviously not working.
They say it like they are reading a script. So Dems know exactly what they will say and are prepared.
Dems learned to repeat a list of all the great things American will benefit from if Americans make more $$$ from a minimum wage increase. That’s so easy to do too.
I would like some more imagination in their replies to Dems by Republicans. They need to stop being so predictable.
They need to surprise Dems.
Washington is broke.
So Coburn, who has gotten squishyer and squishyer the more time he spends in Washington is also a fan of that nonsense?
Is he schizophrenic? LOL
Sorry. I was unclear. I didn’t mean to imply that I thought actual representatives would be part of a convention, but that the states had elected republicans versus democrats & tended to reject...well, you understood via this
“Separated from the uniparty by distinct interests are the states.”
:-) Helpful or infuriating (about the uniparty in DC. That’s a good way to put it!)
I strongly agree that we are running out of time. There are a number of issues that (at least) seem to actually be in common with the left (term limits is one of them; the erosion of the 4th amendment is another) right now. That could work to everyone’s benefit.
Fear is useless.
I think what he is really saying is that congress including himself to some degree cant stop the spending and other controlling stuff, so they need the convention to stop them.
Like the killer who writes the words ‘please stop me’
