HOUSTON (FOX 26) -
Clifford Hall says he's more than happy to pay child support for his 11-year-old son.
"I'm his father it's my responsibility to take care of him," Hall says.
But Hall says when the amount of child support was modified no one told him.
"I discovered for some reason his employer was withholding a large amount some weeks a small amount some weeks a zero amount some weeks," says Hall's attorney Tyesha Elam.
"I didn't want to go to jail basically," Hall says.
So Hall quickly paid almost 3 grand in back child support.

Not necessarily. If the mother goes on welfare, the county will automatically garnish the wages so that the child support goes to them first, then to the mother.
Maybe I should have said this would have never been an issue if divorced fathers actually supported their children.
I get that many do unfortunately many more do not.
“will automatically garnish the wages so that the child support goes to them first, then to the mother.”
Same in FL. State garnishes wages then waits a month or so to pay the recipient. All the while claiming to the payer that the payee is in arrears. It gets worse, much worse. “Two computer systems” “we can’t modify the payment system” etc. They would take from me and not give to her and play one against the other -just like the lawyers!. They’d tell her “he didn’t pay” and tell me “she filed a work order against you” even though I’d paid. It’s a real scam the state runs.
It’s set up with one agency to take the money and one agency to pay the money and they supposedly, according to them, don’t talk and have separate computer systems. Over a dozen ‘mistakes’ and every single one was to keep our money. That’s not coincidence, that’s corruption.
After ripping us off over $6500 beyond what was owed we had to go to our State Representative with the paperwork in order to get the state to pay out what they took and held. And I had to get a court order which took 18 months to receive credit.
All in all we got back $5000 so they got us for $1500 in the end. Now they have a law where you can’t dispute after 30-days -ridiculous.
My only advice is to use your state Rep. One day they’ll get tired and decide to change the laws and agency rules to save themselves the work.
Sounds from the article that he set it up that way with his employer, so it would be sure to be paid. He was the one who noticed the differing amounts, and moved to make sure what he thought was the correct amount was actually paid.
You're forgetting teachers, who are predominately women, very unionized, and who make very good money. Women are also disproportionately represented among civil-service government workers.
Even outside unions, there are LOTS of women professionals. I work with a bunch. They make as much as I do, and it's NOT $10/hr.
yeah, true, a teacher with a Masters degree making 45K and her unwilling to pay child support doofus husband with a high school diploma working at the Ford plant making 96K..........
It would never have been an issue if the wife hadn't decided to file for divorce (two-thirds of divorces are initiated by the woman).
How many teachers do you actually know? $45K is starting pay. A teacher with a masters and 15 years in, makes $82K in NY.
I live in flyover country. They don’t make that here
Also, automotive assembly-line workers make closer to the $50-$60 range.
Kansas City teacher salary schedule. STARTING salary for a masters is $36K, going to $54K with 15 years. For a school schedule. For a job that does not involve heavy lifting. For a job that does not involve working in the rain and sleet, summer heat and winter cold, like the backhoe jobs you snark about in your post #50.
I agree with you. My ex-husband was court ordered to pay support and still managed somehow to get out of paying a huge chunk of it with no repercussions to himself. I think he finally finished repaying the State when my daughters turned 25.
I am sorry
You are correct women should just suck it up the the men are beating them or committing adultery or both. I can see your point.
Yep.
I DO have a clue. YOU have no idea who I AM or what I have been through.
I have NEVER heard of a man going after a woman for $25 per week child support but have heard of several women going after a man for less than that just to make a point. I have several male friends who REFUSE to go after their exes for child support but will admit if the shoe was on the other foot their exes would go after blood just because.
You jumped into a conversation I was having with someone else because YOU NEEDED TO MAKE A POINT.
Let it go. YOU DON”T HAVE A FRICKING CLUE
And don’t bother to respond to this unless it is with an apology. You should be ashamed of yourself.
uh yeah and you need a Masters for that
and to drive a backhoe in the rain? And get overtime pay, great insurance, etc 95K.
High school
what’s your point
hey, I see their tax returns
they make overtime and holiday pay
96K
I do this work day in and day out and have not seen the phenomenon you claim
No apololgies
