Loehmanns, a specialty retailer that has had a presence in Georgia for years, is going out of business and closing its 39 locations, including two in metro Atlanta.
Loehmanns blamed declining economic conditions in key markets, including New York, California, Florida and the Midwest, for a drop in business.

We have a huge one out here in Southern Cal. Hit or miss when I’d shop there but good deals. Went online to see if out of business sale started, here’s what website shows:
Loehmann’s is not accepting new online orders at this time.
You will still find great savings at our 39 Loehmann’s Store Locations.
I loved Loehmans when they were online as Smart Bargains and used to buy designer stuff online all the time. Then Smart Bargains was run by Rue La La and then sold to a watch company I think.
Haven’t shopped Loehmans since they were Smart Bargains but used to get some really good designer deals off that website. I have a Prada handbag I bought off clearance there that I still carry occasionally.
Stein-Mart is not a Loehmann’s replacement. Stein Mart is like a Burlington Coat Factory, not in the same league as Loehmann’s.
Loehmann’s carried lots of high end labels. You won’t find those at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Burlington or SteinMart.
It’s so bad, that Betty Crocker is test-marketing Hamburger Helper Helper.
not to worry.........
If you bid at that new big online auction where freight is prepaid, you can make do.
“I was traumatized as a child seeing all the grandmas in there changing.”
LOL! I was in a place like that once, can’t remember what store it was now. Anti-theft, don’t you know!
The only people who can afford beef these days is people with EBT cards.
The family dollar by me has some very cute items. I got great wrapping stuff there. Last year I loved the gift tags I got, although this year I bought some where the Santa Claus was black. Which was very topical this year, and I don’t really care, but I didn’t want to hear the jokes (I’m very into gift tags, so people actually read them) - I didn’t use too many of those!
Great post, you’ve summed up why so many people are going to miss Loehman’s. Like I said, I never shopped there, but I know gals LOVED it.
I still miss Bradlees!
This is great, no? Using Clown Prince nobama’s logic of yesterday: More unemployment checks will create jobs. Great, there, Clown-leader...just great!
LOL!! I remember that! But I also remember that it was harder to fool yourself into thinking that something looked good on you or fit well enough. All you had to do was ask your neighbors, and they would all chime in! Plus, the walls totally covered with mirrors left nothing to wishful thinking about that extra five pounds...

Apparently there wasn’t enough demand for those high end labels, from them.
You know some people that buy high end labels, want to get them from high end stores.
The Loehmann’s in my town was a dump.
I’ve seen pics of those Paco Rabanne disc dresses and vests...they were definitely from the swinging ‘60s, LOL. Very interesting, though.
We don’t have a Loehmanns here so have never been in one so wouldn’t know. I used to shop alot online with them when they were SmartBargains.com though. Could get some high end stuff at really good prices. Steinmart here carries more or less the same brands as everybody else.
No argument from me; great designer garments are art.
I was in the Uffizi gallery in Florence one November, all that incredible art sitting on the walls, but I spent more time examining the original Giorgio Armani cocktail dresses exhibited in glass cases. The perfection made me want to cry .I always wanted the kind of life in which I could keep a few excellent seamstresses employed. Could not be further from that at the moment, alas.
But I’m not giving up.
Big Lots is closing in my town as well. At least the Goodwill Store is still here.
Oh you smart person!!! I had no idea Smart Bargains etc were Loehmann’s. Is there anything like it now?
Enjoy that Prada:) I’m still schlepping around a big ole Bottega Veneta I bought new at their boutique in San Fran in 1988. A huge price, but guess what? It still looks new, or new enough to use proudly.
Don't knock it. Last year I bought a full length leather Etienne Aigner coat worth a couple of thou for $20 there. A classic oldie, looked like I had been wearing it for a few years, but certainly did not look its age. Wish I could say the same for my face.
