I thought this was a nice complement to the Macy's announcement. But it will be OK for the displaced workers because they can get limitless unemployment and smoke dope all day. Plus free abortions. Can't forget the free abortions.

It’s so bad in my area that Ponderosa AND Big Lots are closing.

Good. The Obamacare Navigators need all the office space they can get.

My wife and her friends use to love this place but when the economy went south they all stopped shopping for anything, anywhere.

Wow, when you lose Big Lots, you’re one step away from cooking the dog for dinner. My sympathies.

How are people supposed to get their dog-in-a-can now that the Big Lots is closed?

Did they ever put doors on their dressing rooms? I was traumatized as a child seeing all the grandmas in there changing.

They’ve been the Chapter 11 route 3 times in recent history: 1999, 2010, and 2013.

Looks like 2013 will be the last time.

...Big Lots are closing.”

I didn’t think any Big Lots would ever close. All of those close to us are very, very busy. Was really amazed the last time I was in Dollar Tree. All the shelves containing any kind of food product were almost bare. Manager said not only can’t they keep them full any more but they are not getting the same variety or quantity as in the past.

But this is a good thing. It means more people will be collecting unemployment, which, according to Obama, creates jobs.

Where will all of us who actually work for a living shop when the Big Lots and Dollar stores close?

The feds don’t leave us enough to shop at the higher price stores where the SNAP people go.

We had one for years, and I could never understand how they survived. They sold very expensive label merchandize, marked down somewhat.

But the resulting prices were still outrageous.

An alternative started in our area, Stein-Mart and I think they do okay.

Aldi's. They're expanding.

Never shopped there (I think it was in the Bronx or something) but I always heard you could get a good bargain there.

I hope it doesn’t turn out that we have to do ALL our shopping on the internet. I like buying stuff on-line, but sometimes I want to browse, see it, try it on and actually take it home with me.

Years ago, I had a friend who worked at a Loehman’s store. She’d call me and tell me to “get right over here” when something came in she thought I’d like. One day it was a floor-length Paco Rabani vest woven from plastic discs, $2200 original price tag, Stunning, honest it was. Looked great on me, but where would anyone wear it? Passed it up at $25. She thought I was nuts.

I still have a couple of 25-yr-old silk blouses I bought there, excellent quality that I can’t buy at any price today. Maybe you can but I can’t.

I loved Loehman’s. Designer clothes at deep deep discounts, what was not to love?

R.I.P.

You should have bought it, then later donated it to an art museum for the tax deduction on the original price.
