A 26-year-old Florida woman may never walk again after her kind gesture to offer a stranger a ride to the hospital turned into a nightmare attack that has ruined her life. Tallahassee-resident Katie Schlinger told her traumatic story to MailOnline, revealing details about the night she offered to drive a stranger to the hospital before 'he physically and sexually attacked her'. Ms Schlinger says she fought back and escaped with her life, but two spinal surgeries later, she still can't use her right arm or walk on her own. And since she's uninsured, she already owes one hospital $250,000 and is about to be kicked out of a third. She was smoking a cigarette in the car at the nearby Quality Inn around 4am when she was approached by 23-year-old Michael Antwon Fuller who asked her for a cigarette and the two started talking about their relatives in the hospital.
Fuller told her he was worried about his uncle at the hospital and wondered if she wouldn’t mind driving him up there so he could see him.
‘Yeah I’ll give you a ride if you promise not to hurt me,’ she joked, agreeing to drive him since the hospital was only four minutes away and Fuller was clean cut, well-spoken and well dressed. ‘Who could hurt that precious face?’ Ms Schlinger recalls him responding.

I don’t buy the hospital visit at 4 AM story. Pure speculation, she wanted to score, and this guy agreed to take her to the drop house. Doesn’t excuse the thug, but nothing else adds up.
One of the unspoken crimes of society is the etremely high cost of medical care. Ever gone to an ER room and made to for several hours while they charge $400 an hour or more for the room while they are all chatting and hamming it up in the center section? After my wife went for food posoning abd received a $7,000 + bill for a few hours we don’t use ERs anymore.

So, in order to prove to herself that she’s not an “evil racist engaging in profiling”,
she did something extremely stupid and dangerous and ended up paying for it in the worst way.

Nothing a little rapid, mobile, 9mm gauge biopsy of the heart couldn’t cure him of the violent outbursts.

I suspect that part of the story might be embellished. Maybe it was a drug purchase gone horribly wrong.

The article says she was at a hotel near the hospital out of state from where she lived. When I am away at a hotel and can’t sleep, I will go down to outside the lobby or near my car to smoke. Smoking in hotel rooms is fairly rare and expensive these days. And you will often see others doing the same, at all hours. Striking up a chat with a fellow smoker at any hour at a hotel isn’t unusual. Driving them anywhere at 4 AM is the part that I don’t understand. The hotel usually has transportation and my first suggestion to such a request would be, I am certain the hotel service desk can have a taxi here in no time, good luck, good bye. What I find most disturbing is this jerk first bumms a smoke, a chat, and a ride from her and then bashes in her head and rapes her.
He probably was raised with a very low opinion, as in “not human” opinion, of people who looked like her.
I, as a woman, would never pick up ANY hitchhiker...woman or man...red white or blue.

And that was her first mistake. I never let anyone approach me at my car.
I think he got her to drop her defenses a little at a time.
“Man, I got a non-smoking room too.” (He’s so law-abiding he won’t smoke where the sign says not to.)
“You visiting family here?”
“Yeah? My uncle’s in the hospital too.”
“I want to be there when he wakes up. Nurses come by five o’clock, taking blood pressure and stuff.”
Backing up her story is that she did have someone in the hospital, and the wrecked car was found at the hospital.
Clean-cut he may be, but he sure has mean eyes in that picture.
This is the kind of person I would marry and I married. Kind hearted.
We’re all geniuses after the fact and the unkind are always right in every fear they hide their blessings under.
Evil exists people. That can’t stop the good that God wants us to do.
She’s like most soldiers - would you really risk your life for that pathetic paycheck? There’s something else.
I may be seen as cold-hearted (or worse), but I wouldn’t give a guy that looked like him a ride anytime.
