President Obama: ‘Long-term unemployed are not lazy’ (The only other explanation then, no jobs)

Shortly after the Senate narrowly cleared the first procedural hurdle to temporarily extend federal benefits to the unemployed, President Obama urged Congress to pass the bill and laid out the moral case to help poor and struggling Americans.

“I just want everybody to understand this is not an abstraction,” said Obama, who was flanked by several who lost their benefits on Dec. 28 after Congress failed to act before leaving for the holidays. “…These are your neighbors, your friends, your family members, it could at some point be any of us. That’s why we set up a system of unemployment insurance. The notion was everybody is making a contribution because you don’t know when the business cycle or an economic crisis might make any of us vulnerable.”

Obama at the White House added, “We are not a people who say you’re on your own. We’re people who believe that we’re all in it together.”

The bill advanced by a 60-37 vote after six Republicans joined the Democratic majority. Democrats needed at least 60 votes to push the legislation forward and begin debate.

If you pay people not to work, then in every culture there will be a subset that won’t work.

He also said that the unemployed should be protected as employers are less likely to hire the chronically unemployed.

He couldn’t even believe he said it after he said it.

I will be sooooo glad when he is unemployed.

Contribution?
I don’t remember anyone asking me for a contribution?

Since Obama has played a round of Golf every fifteen days while on the job, is Obama then in fact proven to be lazy?

This bill that Obama is touting will extend unemployment benefits another year past state benefit exhaustion and cost over 6 billion dollars (borrowed, of course). It is pandering to emotion, as usual. Obama's line about 'we're all in it together' is a tip of his cap to the collectivism he embraces and that ends up bankrupting us.

“I just want everybody to understand this is not an abstraction”

Oh, don’t worry, Mr. President. Those of us living under your economic policies understand just how “real” things have gotten after 5 years of you being in office.

Exactly. And it will be a significant subset.

Rush was right on with the “Economic Idiot” analysis. Marxism rules in DC now. The nation is in jeopardy.

Contribution?

= = = = = = = = = = = = = =
That only applies when it comes to YOUR SSA that YOU forcibly contributed to - 1/2 matched by your Employer, then, IF you managed to get to the ‘American Dream’ - Self Employment - you got to pay the entire .15 on every dollar you earned.

Whatever excuse they used OR are using - .075 was ‘put aside’ to supplement YOUR retirement - SO THE GOVT WOULDN’T HAVE TO.

Problem is, Medicine/diet/ etc got better and people weren’t working till 65 and dying at 66.

Things were ‘bad enough’ with the slush fund that Pols had at their fingertips, so they went ahead and declared drug addiction and alcoholism a DISEASE, thereby qualifying MORE people to ‘dip into the fund’...

algores (supposed) lock box was not only NOT locked, it was/is not a bottomless pit.

Jay Leno commented last night that Colorado was facing a shortage in Marijuana as sales have been so brisk.

Leno opined that ‘Leave it to the Government to get involved. There was NEVER a shortage in product when private enterprise ran it’.
Of course he didn’t mention that private enterprise adjusted the prices to keep the supply intact.

If you include the amount he paid Tiger for a weekend of lessons, you got to conclude he is not only lazy but loves to waste the taxpayers money. Notice he left town and then we get the news that he is going around Congress to further assault our 2nd amendment rights via ex. orders. Funny how he gets out of the picture when they drop a load of s5it on us.

"the average weekly unemployment benefit for all states is $293."

Probably not bad for someone with an employed spouse or living in mom's basement -- otherwise I can't imagine trying to live for 99 weeks on that without "lowering" myself to take some unpleasant, difficult but available job. And if there are no jobs at all around, why do we need immigration "reform"?

Lazy is the base cause for extended unemployment .

Laziness makes people stay rooted in the hope the past will return. In many many instances, the job is not where they live, hanging on to false hope and government dole.

The present is. The future will be

The past will not

Comes pretty close to what the average retiree gets from social security. I could have retired 99 weeks earlier.

‘Long-term unemployed are not lazy’

Very good, 0bozo. Think really hard and you might figure out what 'unemployed' really means.

(psst, it means they have no jobs)
