Mark "Coonrippy" Brown says "This is all about the raccoon."
A Tennessee man who lost his pet raccoon after a video of him showering with his other raccoon went viral on YouTube is running for governor in order to get back his faithful companion.
Mark Coonrippy Brown will take on Governor Bill Haslam in the Republican primary this August in a bid that he hopes will get Rebekah away from state wildlife officials and back into his arms.
"This is all about the raccoon," Brown said.
The 55-year-old claims that a permit request he sent to Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officials went unanswered and that a petition he sent to Gov. Haslam with over 60,000 signatures was returned to him without ever being opened.
"Gov. Haslam ignored the cries from the entire United States," Brown said. "He can free prisoners, he can pardon people, but he refused the online petition and refused to accept the letter. All eyes were on Tennessee and it made us look bad. It made it look like we were under Caesar's law."
With his gubernatorial run, Brown aspires to "expose the people in office who are not for the people."
Brown declared for the race on Friday, the first day candidates could pick up petitions.

'It made it look like we were under Caesar's law'
We all know how ya feel brother.
Cry havoc!, and let slip the raccoons of war.
If you like your coon you can keep it.
” video of him showering with his other raccoon”
This guy is way too close with his pet coons.
It's what they do.
And in other news, Elliot Spitzer got his beaver back.
Yeah, probably a Crockett replica right now.
He was showing it off while on vacation, whether they wanted to see it or not.
Why the HELL do you need a permit to keep a RACCOON????
Governmental statism starts on a slippery slope like this.
Well, I don’t know. I’m no fan of raccoons, but the little ones are kind of cute, sort of. This guy can’t be any worse than most politicians, and probably would produce less chaos. Matter of fact, so would the raccoon.
“Why the HELL do you need a permit to keep a RACCOON????”
Exactly!! I can see regulating say ZOOS or something. Keeping wild animals is not exactly my cup of tea but as long as it isn’t causing a problem I don’t see why the gubermint has to worry about it.
I have vague memories of John Cleese demanding a license for his fish.
It`s downright UNCOONSTITUTIONAL!
We saw a hat marked “Beaver Hat” in an antique store. Friend says.....I don’t know any self respecting beaver who would wear that!
If he gets his raccoon back and it see it’s shadow, will there be six more weeks of winter?
It was 3.6 here this morning..
its colder where you are..
hope your raccoons did OK last night..
Is this the former Vice Mayor of Knoxville? I can’t remember if he served under Haslam though...
Apparently this is a different guy.
