The playoff won’t fix anything. it will probably make it worse. people just aren’t thinking this through.
prediction: this time next year, people will be screaming about the unfairness of the playoff selection process. teams 5, 6, and 7 will have a legitimate gripe.
I agree completely.
When they made it a 4 team playoff I knew it was just to shut people up, and to position them to end the NCAA. To be a real playoff it needed at least 8 teams, 16 even better.
“the BCS did everything it was intended to do and then some.”
Made lots of people lots of money and then some, at the expense of true competition.
The new “playoff” should be the top eight, not four.
Why is college football being ruled by people who hate college football? If you like professional football, watch it. Instead, they decided to destroy college football.
And the 5 and 6 teams will sleepwalk through their bowl games like Bama did, because the other bowl games are now to college football what the NIT is to college basketball.
All the whining and complaining about which teams don’t make the basketball tournament....now we’ll have it for football too.
Exactly...which is why it will eventually be expanded to 8 and after a few more years to 16 teams. Sure, in a ranking system there will be an argument between who’s 16 and 17, but such teams have no chance to win the championship anyway. I say, let the top 16 teams have at it starting as soon as possible!!!
You still have to pick the teams. People are being absolutely duped.
the “injustice” lies in the conference structure. if you really want to “fix” college football, you start by blowing up the conferences. you can’t put a playoff on the backend of a rigged system and call it “fair”.
Why stop there? People who need that, just don’t like college football. College football is not professional football. There aren’t 32 teams. These people have ruined everything college football stands for. They might as well abolish college football. They can create a minor league NFL. I have total contempt for these playoff people.
Why don;t you just watch the NFL, since you don’t like college football?
“It became cool to criticize it, which is unfortunate,”
The Bush administration.
“That’s when I knew the thing was doomed,”
America, when Hussein was elected
It still wouldnt accomplish anything. But even if I bought your argument, It would take a month to play out a 16 team playoff bracket. Are you going to just add that onto the back if the season?
I wonder what happens when some heisman trophy winner shreds his knee and ruins his nfl career because a bunch of spoiled college football fans want their delusion of fairness.
Are you being sarcastic? You just don’t like college football. Why rip apart something you don’t like, so the people who do like it can’t enjoy it.
That would be the advantage of a 16 team playoff, it would get deep enough into the chart to get past the conferences. The goal of what they setup though is the end the NCAA and make the conference winners the entries into this playoff. At least they’ll kill the NCAA.
There’s already a month inbetween the end of the season and the championship game, all a 16 team playoff does is put meaningful football in that gap that’s currently occupied by air and bad bowl games.
No, I don’t like what people like you want to turn college football into.
Make the sports teams separate from the universities, and dissolve the NCAA.
It is the farm team for the NFL, treat it like one.
The won’t separate from the universities, it gives them too much money. But they can leave the NCAA, they just need to figure out what they’ll replace it with. One thing for sure, there won’t be any such thing as “recruiting violations” in the replacement.
