The playoff won’t fix anything. it will probably make it worse. people just aren’t thinking this through.
prediction: this time next year, people will be screaming about the unfairness of the playoff selection process. teams 5, 6, and 7 will have a legitimate gripe.

When they made it a 4 team playoff I knew it was just to shut people up, and to position them to end the NCAA. To be a real playoff it needed at least 8 teams, 16 even better.
And the 5 and 6 teams will sleepwalk through their bowl games like Bama did, because the other bowl games are now to college football what the NIT is to college basketball.
All the whining and complaining about which teams don’t make the basketball tournament....now we’ll have it for football too.
Exactly...which is why it will eventually be expanded to 8 and after a few more years to 16 teams. Sure, in a ranking system there will be an argument between who’s 16 and 17, but such teams have no chance to win the championship anyway. I say, let the top 16 teams have at it starting as soon as possible!!!
It’ll be a few years, but I look forward to playoff expansion to include 8 or (preferably) 16 teams. Championships will be far more meaningful when that happens. With the 16 top-ranked teams getting in, there may still be bleating and whining from teams that don’t get in, but any team with a legitimate argument to be #1 would make it in for their shot easily.
The playoff format, will be whatever ESPN says it is. ESPN, controls college football now.
