The Defense Department announced Friday that many areas will be removed from the list of places where U.S. servicemembers qualify for imminent danger pay.
Today we are announcing the recertification of some locations as Imminent Danger Pay areas while we are discontinuing that designation for others, Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren told reporters.

Does close proximity to a sodomite count for imminent danger pay?
That’s it ya poser punk,
Anything to screw the military
If you actually get killed by enemy action in an area decertified, do you get retroactive pay?
It is a vacation destination yet it is kept on the IDP roster. joy.
A big issue in a number of areas. I’m a reserve JAG and we were placed on the “critical skills/undermanned” list for about three years, which allowed us to get a tiny reimbursement for out of pocket expenses of travel to our duty station if it was more than 150 miles from our HOR. Was supposed to be for career fields manned at 90% or less, but we didn’t get on the list for 2 years after the AFSC qualified, and it continued for a year after we were at 95%. Government waste? You bet - even though I appreciated the little bit we did get. I love my country, but I’d rather not lose money pulling duty (costs twice my daily pay to get from Texas to DC and back).
I read the article and agree with all of the IDP deletions. In fact, the list of surviving IDP locations still seems quite liberal. My idea of “combat” is a lot more restrictive than today’s overblown definitions.
Problem is, the whole daggone world is now a warzone with the Global War on Terror still underway, or whatever Supreme Generalissimo Obongo is calling it these days.
As with any award, overly broad application of hazard bonuses lessens their meanings, and creates an artificial leveling effect that ignores the disparate levels of individual participation. When “almost everyone gets a trophy” regardless of specific involvement, the extraordinary sacrifice of ACTUAL combat is cheapened.
amen to what you said.
