Did they find a space peanut???
Does it have a reverse ?
True heavy equipment story:
The contractor rented and brought in a huge crane to lift huge box beams onto bridge columns. After putting out the outriggers, getting the right counterweights attached, etc, they couldn’t get it to lift the beams.
The crane operator got out the instruction manual (it was really thick) and started going through it. No luck. They called the place they rented it from. The rental place sent out their guy, who also couldn’t get it to work. Then they called the west coast importer of the equipment. The local guys followed the instructions on the phone and still couldn’t get it to work.
Finally, they called the manufacturer in China. The local guys started going over the steps with the guy on the phone. They got to one step, turned the page, and started on the next step. They guy on the phone said, “No, that is not the next step. You need to do ......” The local guys said, that is not what it says here. The guy on the phone says, “What you are doing it two pages ahead. Turn back a page.” The local guys played with the instruction book a bit and found that two pages had stuck together. They very carefully pulled the pages apart and followed the instructions. It worked perfectly and lifted the beams beautifully.
The delay due to two pages being stuck together cost about 8 hours for about three-dozen guys.
My bad. It was only 96.

Rudy Martinez forgives you.
Makes sense to me...Could also measure the thrust load on the bearings...After thinking about it, they likely have some mechanism to measure the rpm of the cutting head...Seems that the cutters are in groups and they rotate within the cutter plate which itself rotates...I'll have to look one up on the internet...
$13,824
what is that from??
QUATERMASS AND THE PIT or FIVE MILLION YEARS TO EARTH.
I believe the post above it #30 is from the same movie.
Too bad about the down time on that job, but it's good to hear that everyone kept their heads and kept working at it until they discovered the root cause of the problem. So often in business and industry, you see the exact opposite.
On large construction projects, the failure to apply simple logic, reasoning, and problem solving, can result in death, financial loss, or destruction of property. Let's hope the guys on the tunnel dig keep at it until they find the exact cause of the problem.
Isn’t this how horror movies start out?
paid by the hour they will never fix it
The problem is can’tdrillitum
We'd better be careful...
That’s the one I called “Rock ‘em, sock ‘em robots”...as entertaining as the old Godzilla movies...
