Time to confiscate assets like Medicaid does.
I would guess 1% are actually disabled. This system is a joke.
Have a neighbor on this scam. A union tradesman with very marketable skills. Every time I see him out working on his car or hanging Christmas lights on his house I have to wonder just what his disability is.
A kid from my high school class (he dropped out) stepped off the side of a parked D-7 dozer and hurt his back.
He been on this program since he was 17 or 18 years old back in 1966...
Sad to say, I’ve even met recent young vets who have figured out how to scheme and scam the VA. (claims for tinitus seem harder to disprove so that was one on his list of planned attempts) He even knew the formula for percentage and amounts.
It’s seeminginly even encouraged in out-processing briefings with a wink and a nod.
Very discouraging.
The “disabled” guy down the street is on the list of violent sex offenders. Too disabled to drive a commercial truck but drives his own car just fine. Whether he has skills is not the question, it’s whether we should pay him to loaf.
Early and lifetime retirement for those for whom work would not improve their lifestyles.
My younger brother is mentally retarded (IQ of about 65) and gets nowhere near this much.
That’s because your brother is probably on SSI and not Social Security.
Soooo- this violent sex offender is put on the Federal disabled lists???
What a scam!!!!!!
Probably.
Another interesting one is sleep apnea. Now unless you suffered some kind of facial or neck injury, I don't know how sleep apnea could be service related, but for a while they were giving 50% for that. That is more than some kids are getting who got really banged up in combat.
I got 20% for a really banged up arm in an aircraft mishap, but only 10% for much more problematic back issues related to 20 years flying tactical aircraft with really poorly designed seats.
"quite."
Thanks for your service.
Probably mental.
My daughter was born 100% deaf, started getting 800/month after 18 and in college. Any aid, reduction in dorm costs from serving as an RA, or part time school jobs gets deducted. I've seen it go from 800 to 300/month. It helps but not as much money as people think.
Then in our community, you have entire extended families, every adult is on disability. Back, knees, even crazy pay as they call it. Every family member works at it until they get on disability, no joke. They then get on all the govt freebies. Energy assistance, food stamps, free medical care and plane flights, and motels to and from doctors (that become their shopping trips). Something ain't right, but how does govt honestly correct this type fraud? No easy answwers.
I was on disability for a number of years. I knew what I couldn’t do any longer so I had to figure out what I could do. Have the best job of my life now earning more than I ever had. I am so glad I am no longer on disability but unfortunately I think I am the exception, rather than the rule. Most seem content to stay on disability.
Back before I found out he was on that list he would complain about how difficult it was to get disability after a work related injury. Back then I figured he was lazy and a bit of a scam artist. Only later I realized he was incredibly manipulative and dangerous. I can’t get into more details...
My sister-in-law disowned me on FB in November 2012 after I expressed my dismay about Zero being re-elected. She’s 61, a year older than me, but she’s been on disability since she was in her mid-50s due to the stress from her job as a medical biller (and everyone knows what a tough job that is, lol). She was afraid that her cushy disability payments would be reduced or eliminated if Romney won. I’d turn her in if I thought someone would do something because, except for her liberal lunacy, she shows absolutely no sign of being disabled.
