Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio vowed to act quickly to abolish horse-drawn carriages in the city.
"We are going to get rid of the horse carriages. Period, de Blasio said in response to a question at his press conference announcing his schools chancellor pick Monday.
Its over, he said.

“Having said that, New York City is no fit place for horses (or people for that matter). The city is LOUD, crowded, noisy, dangeous and brutally hot in the summer. Keep horses in places where they ( and normal people) would be happier.”
The other night I saw people riding in the carriages, while buses passed with advertisements on them condemning the practice. 60+ years ago they got rid of horse riding up at Bear Mountain in NY because of the conditions for the animals; I’d imagine in NYC they are under a lot of scrutiny.
All animals I know of like to work. As long as they enjoy it, they like to be productive.
Alec Baldwin will be ecstatic.
The Mayor went on to say, “There’s room for only one horse’s a** in this town, and I’m it!”
It’s hard to disagree...
Did this guy get bit at the pony ride when he was three?
NYC has been like that for two hundred years. Don’t know how those horses survived.
NYC: getting exactly what they voted for
Out of the frying pan and into the fire.....
This is a metaphor for what is coming down the road good and hard from Mayor Wilhelm.
These idiots have no idea what they are in for.
No pity for the New Yorkers who voted for this moron.
By the time this a-hole is done there will be no tourist trade in New York, and it serves them right.
Next up, the official language of NYC will be Swedish and all citizens will be required to change their underwear every half-hour and it will be worn on the outside so they can check.
A friend of mine has horse-drawn carriages that she rents out for weddings and other occasions. When DC lawmakers and professional busybodies criticized her for this ostensibly “cruel” practice, she and a friend unhitched the horses and pulled the large carriage by themselves, on foot, to Capitol Hill to show that the horses weren’t being asked to do anything difficult or cruel. Once a heavy vehicle starts rolling it’s just not that hard to keep it going.
De Blasio is an avowed communist. But New Yorkers will never get it.
Every one of these progressives is a dictator at heart.
Is anyone surprised by this. Wilhelm will make Bloomy look like Thomas Jefferson.
Willingly vote your freedoms away.....go figger.
You know, they could have elected Weiner, but he probably would have done the same thing. “P****” envy, you know....
In other news Congress passed legislation to protect and subsidize the American buggywhip industry.
The "Great Helmsman" wasn't a big fan of horses either...unless,of course, they were being ridden by Chinese soldiers who were raping and murdering innocent South Koreans a while back or,more recently, were being ridden by "Red Guards" who were busy rounding up and murdering "capitalist roaders".
Well,at least he's being true to his hero and mentor.
