wow, thats real hardship. by all means raise taxes and print money so they don't have to "and cut back on dining out".
" Dine in. Chill out."
Headline next week:
“Millions who could not find a job for many months (years) all of a sudden find jobs after unemployment runs out”
Omg! Might even be driven to take jobs, eh? Sounds really Really. “ desperate!” ( as the article portrays ). Omg. Omg. Omg! Imagine that! So incredibly desperate that they might even consider, shudder , working ?! (Gotta say, the article author either really demeans these people or else they’re really the lazy selfish bloodsucking welfare pigs the author portrays them to be. I personally prefer to believe the former. ).
Greg and Barbara Chastain are doing what millions of families have done over time. We didn’t always have government to feed, clothe and entertain us. They are showing by their sacrifices that there is another way, and they will find more self respect in the process.
What I have said is not said philosophically, but from personal experience. I was born shortly after the depression in the early part of the last century.
Unfortunately, that was exactly what stuck out at me.
If neither my wife and I had a job, there is no way I would spend even a nickel at McDonalds.
To think they were collecting benefits and eating out is offensive to me.
“cut back on dining out”
Oh, God...the horrors...and in THIS country!!!!
Those benefits should only last 6-months tops.
It’s important to look at this on the grand scale. 1.3 million people taking a hit all at once is likely not going to have a big direct impact on the economy, but there are going to be some ripples.
To start with, unemployment over time tends to be cumulative. That is, even with a government check, they were using up a lot of the “fat” in their lives. Not just cutting back, but converting resources into cash. Everything from pawn shops to selling things on Craigslist and ebaY.
The biggest impact will be on charities, who are already feeling the strain, but it will just keep getting worse and worse.
From an economics standpoint, it would be wise to see what other ripples might be attributed to this.
Why don’t they consider getting a JOB!!
Nobody has had their unemployment benefits run out before this?
Wow! Who knew?
I suspect folks will do what all the other folks did when their benefits ran out. They either got a job or did without.
Once again, who knew?
This isn’t something new. It’s how it has always worked. Those on unemployment now have received up to six times what others before them received. Enough already. This had to end something. It is ending now.
I know someone who was let go at the age of 65. This person starting collecting Social Security benefits immediately, AND unemployment, with no intention of ever going back to work. That was FIVE YEARS AGO, and the unemployment checks STILL keep rolling in. On top of that, this person was given a package from the employer that included the equivalent of salary for one and a half years and was still able to collect unemployment because it was not stated as being “salary”.
And that’s just one case of abuse.
That sounded like it was a little dubious, at best, the begin with.
