Last summer, gay activists tried to destroy the national chicken chain. They wound up helping instead.
Victory tastes like chicken. Despite a year filled with protests and a smorgasbord of media scrutiny, recent evidence shows Chick-fil-A didnt just survive becoming the target of a boycott led by gay activists last summer. Its flourishing.
The popular fast-food chicken restaurant found itself in the crosshairs of media attention and activist protests after CEO Dan Cathy said in interviews with Christian media that he supports the biblical definition of the family unit.
Liberal groups had protested Chick-fil-As charitable contributions before, especially unhappy that the firms WinShape Foundation had donated money to groups like the Marriage & Family Foundation and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. After Cathys comments ricocheted around the Internet, pro-gay organizations targeted the company. That, in turn, spurred hundreds of thousands to support a Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day led by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Aug. 1.
The results speak for themselves: The restaurant chain grew both in profits and locations last year. While the 500 largest U.S. restaurant chains showed sales growth of 4.9 percent, Chick-fil- A nearly tripled that result with 14.1 percent, according to Tech- nomic Inc., a Chicago-based consulting and research firm serving the food industry.
The fast food giant, the nations second-largest chicken chain, ended 2012 with $4.6 billion in sales, reported the Atlanta Journal- Constitution. The company also opened 96 new stores, four more than the year before.
And its reputation actually improveda lot. It made the annual Harris Poll Reputation Quotation for the first time in February, landing at 33 on the list of the top 60 Most Visible Companies, just three slots behind ever-popular Mc- Donalds and two ahead of Burger King. The numbers caught the media off guard. USA Today headlined one piece:

All of the Chick’s around here are OVER filled around lunch time EVERY day. You go through the drive-thru and you start like 35th car in line. In side, you have to wait for a place to sit down and eat or just go to your car. They are always full. Always.
I can't believe all the hateful comments I see on this thread because of my comments.
I was raised by parents that required me to be in church every day of the week except Monday, Friday and Saturday.
I worked either farming or in construction every day except Sunday from pre-dawn to dark-thirty.
There was constant pressure to shop locally, but the local retailers didn't open until 9:00 or 10:00 AM and closed at 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. The few that were open on Saturday closed at noon. Nothing was open Sunday.
I got out of that situation as soon as I turned 18 (43 years ago) and never went back.
This throwback that Chik-fil-A represents is an affront and represents the tyranny of a minority.
When I need or want something from a retailer, it would be nice for them to be open for business.
I love their Sausage and Egg Breakfast Burrito.
Their Cole Slaw is absolutely wonderful as is their Chicken Salad Sandwich.
Their Regular Chicken Sandwich isn’t my favorite. The Spicy is a bit better, but I don’t go out of my way to get either.
No. This is a Christian run business just like hobby lobby and they are affording any of thei employees who are Christian to go to church and observe the lords day with their families.
Anyone who denigrates them for that is certainly not a Christian himself
According to my research, 41% of Americans report themselves as "churchgoing Christians".
Not all of those support retailers closing on Sundays. That is the tyrannical minority of which I speak.
Why the hate? They still gave 68 million to charity in the last three years. They are still p*ssing off liberals and the militant gays.
Title of the article is
Chick-fil-A, One Year Later
Last summer, gay activists tried to destroy the national chicken chain. They wound up helping instead.
What is misleading?
No hate. just the truth. You are misinformed. Chik Fil-A banned giving donations to pro-marriage groups in 2010 or 2011.
They are still p*ssing off liberals and the militant gays.
How so? After the hype died down, I saw many article in which gay activists that said Chik Fil-A was fully compliant with the gay agenda.
Who is us? Why do so many conservatives have to be so gullible?
Its been that way since their early days...
didn’t you ever go to the mall on Sunday and see the dark restaurant in the food court? Yep Chick Fil A...
and if you read the sign they put out every Saturday when they closed it told you why.
“So our employees can worship with their families”
Its their business they can run it as they see fit... for now... But I wonder if your post was a bit tongue in cheek?
What was their planned protest about?
Same thing happened to A&E... the numbers caught them of guard.
I was going through the drive thru at Chick fil A a few months ago - made my order - and when I got to the window the woman said the order was free. Their computer system was down so until it was working they filled orders for free. I offered to ‘donate to the cause’ and she laughed, said ‘no’ and I smiled and accepted my food... It’s a great little company...
A business decided its own hours of operation is a tyranny now is it? You're out of your fargin mind. Nobody is forcing you to eat at Chik-Fil-A or do business with them.
“Many times, on Sunday, Ill be at Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa,”
My sympathy.
No need for that. It’s a nice place and it’s an enjoyable cruise around the place ... and ... it’s also where the Apple Store is, in Tulsa. It’s always enjoyable going in there ... :-) ...
“Windmeyer says he knows he and Cathy disagree about gay marriage but that theyve reached an understanding of each other as people.”
Cathy is doing just what a Christian should do in my opinion.. We will NEVER change our society by bashing the homosexual. Only by showing them Christ is REAL in our lives. I am not saying we need to embrace the gay lifestyle but I am saying we need to embrace the Gay person, Show them God and Christ are real and then watch the Change HE puts about in their lives...
Cathy or Chick fil A are not contributing to Homosexual groups but they aren’t shunning them either.
