Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, a Catholic who is considered a potential Republican presidential candidate in 2016, said that he did not believe that Francis was a Marxist. But he pointed out in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the pontiff's background is rooted in the Peronist movement in Argentina, where the state took a leading role in the economy. "The guy is from Argentina, they haven’t had real capitalism in Argentina,” Ryan said. "They have crony capitalism in Argentina. They don’t have a true free enterprise system."

Wow.

The EXACT conversation we should be happening is repent and be saved!"

Jesus...and the Gospel...are not social revolutionaries. He's a Savior.

he wants to de-emphasize the church's position on issues like abortion and gay marriage and instead concentrate on more important problems such as helping the poor and the underprivileged. What's a few million dead babies and the end of the sacrament of marriage as practiced for 2 millenia compared with this decades fad wealth redistribution?

Remember Pope Fancis is living out what St. Francis of Asissi said “preach the Gospel and when possible use words”. Translation: Preach the Gospel by WALKING the walk you may only be the ONLY GOSPEL there is.

Sure.

Be a real cold day in Hell when this POS gets my vote.

Ryan is dead to me.

He cannot redeem himself, no matter what he does or says.

The idiots attacking the Pope just don’t get it.

The Pope is not a politician and his words have nothing to do with the role of government.

Trickle down economics only works as a government policy if the citizens are guided by christian moral virtues. If people attack the Pope and reject christianity then capitalism cannot work. You’d have to be very dumb to call the pope a marxist. He’s the anti-Marxist. The Catholic church is the only institution standing in the way of global socialism.

Francis is not speaking ex cathedra when he opines on economic topics.

He is speaking ex recto.

Likely little downside for the GOP here, since so many of my fellow Catholics continue to reflexively pull the lever for Democrats regardless. Despite the fact that the Democrats continually go out of their way to take a p*ss on all of our most cherished values.

The Pope: “...I have met many Marxists in my life who are good people...”

Well, Pope Francis - I never met a militant capitalist who raped a child or impaled a Christian on a bayonet.

I have met plenty of marxists with their masks off though.

Also, as Bishop, he got a salary from the Peronist government of Argentina.

So Ryan’s going after the Catholic Socialist vote which seems to be in abundance in the U.S. these days...

I don't listen to Rush 3X5. Did he really say these words? I heard his careful criticism but I never heard the word Marxist. I seriously doubt it.

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh has already called Time's "Person of the Year" a closet Marxist
