"Five Things A&E Did Wrong has become the hot parlor game among TV industry execs at holiday get-togethers."

"A rookie mistake. Thats how one TV industry veteran whos put in time dealing with rogue reality stars described A&Es handling of its Duck Dynasty nightmare."

"Someones going to have to back down, said one industry vet, predicting its not going to be the Robertsons. Either [A+E Networks CEO] Nancy [Dubuc] says, This is not the position of the network and we respect Phils religious beliefs, and we all move on from there, or I dont think the show survives on A&E, the source continued.
Theyre going to have to apologize, agreed another. If they want them back, theyre going to have to eat crow. Theyll probably do it right after Christmas. Look for a note sometime over the next week and a half."

The Robertsons know very well what a stage they are on now--this is a huge challenge to model their faith, in all its aspects. How they respond to whatever A&E does will be the result, no doubt, of much prayer, wise consultation, and family conversation. And I, for one, would not be surprised if they accept whatever apology is forthcoming and ultimately decide to remain with A&E. They may decide they can accomplish more for the Gospel that way.
I think, in part, it was because he was a new Christian so his commitment to his new faith was questionable, whereas there was no doubt about the Robertson’s level of commitment.
Yes, that’s what should happen.
Perhaps a move to The Blaze.
The Robinsons believe they are doing God’s work on that show... I’m not qualified to judge that. I had no idea who these people were before this dustup. I watched a bit of several episodes and some youtube vids and I find that I really like these people :-)
That is because they do not support Christians.
A&E has been removed from my channel selector and will never be put on again. And ain’t goin’ to Cracker Barrel anymore either even tho’ they caved in on their initial attack on Christianity.
Don’t need either of them.
Likely. Forgiveness of the repentant is a fundamental part of Christianity.
I knew these "Duck Dynasty" people were familiar! The story referenced in the bottom right of this (now defunct) magazine was about the Robertsons. I was a subscriber back then.
I don't live near a Cracker Barrel, but their apology seemed full and genuine to me, so I think they've learned an important lesson and I don't hold it against them; of course, a recurrence would change all that for me. The same may eventually be true for me regarding A&E, especially if the Robertsons ultimately come to terms with them. After all, they're the immediate aggrieved party, although as a Christian myself they attacked me and my beliefs, too. I'm withholding judgment for now.
Great find!
Easier solution. Fire Nancy Dubuc and install a real CEO that understands that it makes better sense to listen to the majority of your subscribers that make your business profitable.
A&E will have to PUBLICLY apologize and admit that they were wrong in order to appease the masses.
“We’re going to move on from here.” is nothing even remotely resembling an apology.
I’m trying to find the article online but it’s like pulling teeth. I may have to find the actual magazine and scan it. It’s way back in storage so that’ll take some time.
Well said. I'm reminded of Paul's stern condemnation of the actions of one of the Corinthians in his first letter, demanding his expulsion, and then his rescission of that banishment in his second letter. The circumstances are far afield, but the concept is similar.
Nancy Dubuc,,,,another genius mediot CEO...
I see that someone asked the question (not verbatim), why did a&e allow Phil Robertson within a mile of a GQ interview? My guess is that they never dreamed he would just be himself, or that through this interview by the knowing, cynical, spinning left media woud salvage their original premise of the show in that we were supposed to laugh at the Robertsons, not with them. Cowards-but it backfired anyway.
What did they expect, runnng a show featuring a Godfearing famiy to whom it wouldn’y occur that they must hide the thing which are the foundation of their lives-their Christianity?
It will be quite a pearl if you can find it without too much trouble. I’m especially intrigued by the part about hiding from the law. Probably related to Phil’s admitted drug use back in the day, but I’d like to see what their actual allegation was.
BTW, the guy on the cover only does air ambulance medical collections and owns the local Arena Football team in addition to his collection agency.
And therein lies the difference between what the Robertson’s stand for and ny media stands for. Lots of profanity thrown about compared to none on DD.
Media folks are way to sophisticated to understand the plain and simple message the Robertson’s are sharing.
Ping.
She’s the one we need to put the heat on.
