Ya beat me to it Bob...
At least we didn’t post links to the same YouTube clip :-)
Larry was one of my favorites on KJR 950 in Seattle back in the early sixties. That must have been one of his first real top 50 stations. Larry, along with Lan Roberts (passed away) and Pat O’Day, who is still around out here - KJR had a good line-up.
Godspeed, Larry.
Just out of college, I had a night shift gig at a drugstore in Chicagoland. At 5am it was time for Uncle Lar, but on 12/8/1980 Uncle Lar launched a stirring tribute show to the now late John Lennon. I always wanted an “animal stories mobile unit” bumper sticker, to capture the “inter-mingling of the species”
“Animal Stories” was a result of WLS’s heritage as a station targeted at rural audiences - when they switched over to a rock format, they kept a token “farm report”, which eventually dropped into Lujack’s lap.
And then when they dropped the vestigial farm stuff altogether, Lujack missed the sometimes whacky stuff that would show up there - so he’d dig up his own material as “Animal Stories”.
And the folks who wanted a real farm report still had Orion Samuelson on WGN.
Didn’t my link work? I wonder why.
Amen!

Wow, I didn’t know that Don Wade had died. Used to listen to him every morning when I lived there. Even Roma’s little red book quote once in a while.
Wow, close. 1980, '68 Valiant, Larry and Tommy Animal Stories, Rural Illinois.
By the way, I was only 15, I got my first car when I was 14. The benefits of living in the country. lol
