Big news for two reasons. One: Republican Frank Wolf, who represents increasingly blue northern Virginia, announced earlier today that he was retiring after 34 years. Thats a golden opportunity for Democrats to turn the House slightly bluer or was, before Mathesons retirement canceled it out. Two: If Love wins the seat, shed be the first black woman elected to Congress as a Republican.
The GOP naturally wants to make that happen to help rebrand itself as a more racially diverse party, which is one reason why she got a speaking slot at the convention last year. Grassroots righties I know like her a lot too, although she got some static last month when she seemed to inch away from the tea party label and criticized Mike Lees defund tactics (as did a lot of other Utahns). When the Blaze noticed, she issued a statement trying to smooth things over. Hmmm.
The only mystery to this election, then, is whether Love will win in a walkover or whether other Republicans will be lured into the primary by the prospect of an easy general election.
One of Romneys sons is forever being whispered about as a potential candidate for something or other. Maybe therell also be a candidate to her right championing Lees defund effort and dismissing her as just another RINO in the making. And hey theres always the Huntsmans! The national party will do whatever it can to clear the field for her. Stay tuned.

Whhoo-hoo! The KKK wing the the Democrat party will hate this!
Mia Love will be part of a bright future of conservative elected officials, in my opinion. The liberals will denigrate her, but, people such as her give me hope for the future.
I hope Mia does not go flying in and around Molokai
I love Mia.
34 years! 17 terms! Does anyone in his district really believe that man has/had his finger on the pulse and tribulations of his constituents?
It is disgusting someone can sup so long at the peoples’ trough.
bttt
Same here Dilbert. And the more people we loft like her, the more Black kids can observe them and adopt their principles and political views.
Bump!
I think she would be a fine Senator.
Matheson is retiring because internal polling data is showing that he would be CRUSHED in the November 2014 election.
Mia will be an OUTSTANDING addition to the Tea Party caucus in the house. She’ll also be another nail in Boehner’s coffin when he runs again as Leader in January 2015.
Or visiting Fort Marcey Park in Arlington, Virgina.
I was so disappointed when she and Allen West lost...
Ed
Hot Damn! She only lost to Matheson by like 700 votes (out of a quarter million cast). My district. Rock on Mia!
Mia is already a rock star she almost won last time.
What worries me is some faux Tea Party candidate or a Libertarian funded by Democrats.
Col. West’s loss was devastating to me. I thought he had the best campaign ever but the GOP redistricted him into a tough win. SOBs.
It’s only a matter of time before the Democrats sweep in en masse nationwide in an election they were supposed to lose, precisely because they fund libertarian spoilers en masse. This could be the year it happens. If we don’t insist on run-off elections and no one being declared a winner without 50% of the vote, then the country will be lost. The Democrats are experts at counting votes and will conspire to repeat the Mcauliffe victory plan nationwide.
