The Lebanese soldier who shot dead IDF Master Sergeant Shlomi Cohen in an unprovoked attack Sunday evening has reportedly handed himself in to Lebanese authorities.

According to Lebanese media, after briefly disappearing in the aftermath of the attack and spending the night "hiding in a bush", the unnamed soldier reported for duty at the Lebanese General Security post at the Ras al-Naqoura border crossing, surrendering himself as the site where he committed the shooting just hours earlier.

31 year-old Shlomi Cohen, a resident of the northern Israeli city of Afula, was killed after the Lebanese soldier fired around half a dozen bullets towards him, before reportedly being stopped by his comrades and then promptly fleeing.

The attacker is believed to have acted alone, but it remains to be seen what disciplinary action, if any, will be taken in response by the Lebanese military.

Meanwhile, the IDF has said that it is still investigating the incident, and stressed that it "is ready for any action that will be required and will not tolerate any harm to Israeli citizens," adding that "The IDF reserves the right to respond when and where it sees fit".

Well, it's murder. The two sides obviously have no extradition treaty but that's more reason why there should be some retaliation on the part of the IDF if he's not handed over.

It may take up to a week to strike a new medal and commendation for him, unless they have a 3-d printer and a Kinkos.

They do, but the clerks were all put to the sword, because one of the had converted to Christianity and they weren’t sure which;-) Manager has to find new staff who can operate computers and printers. May take a while.

Encouraging sign that his fellow Lebanese soldiers rose up to stop him.

I had thought it was even money a Hezbollah player had carried this out. Course him being a member of the Lebanese army doesn’t rule that out does it. These days Hezbollah is part of the government too.

I suppose it is. They may have had strict orders not to cause an incident, give Israel a reason to react.

Typical zombie attack ... just, "rise up" and unload a burst of auto fire.
Fellow soldiers "stuned" for a moment which allowed the zombie to slink into the bushes ... who later realizes he'd been hypnotized by his government and turns himself in

I don’t think there is a cover up. I think he was bored, trained to shoot Israeli soldiers, and just did it.

I flew a lot in “peacetime” such that a lot of targets I saw I could not shoot. I’d be armed on such occasions; and it was just so very tempting to open up on them.

Long way of saying, this is an ordinary impulse for a trained soldier, but ordinary people are capable of suppressing that impulse, this guy was not, for whatever reason.
