Oregon, once touted as a model for President Obama's health care law, signed up just 44 people for insurance through November, despite spending more than $300 million on its state-based exchange.
The states exchange had the fewest sign-ups in the nation, according to a new report today by the Department of Health and Human Services.
The weak number of sign-ups undercuts two major defenses of Obamacare from its supporters.
One defense was that state-based exchanges were performing a lot better than the federal healthcare.gov website servicing 36 states. But Oregon's website problems have forced the state to rely on paper applications to sign up participants.
Another defense of the Obama administration has attributed the troubled rollout of Obamacare to the obstruction of Republican governors who wanted to see the law fail as well as a lack of funding.
But Oregon is a Democratic state that embraced Obamacare early and enthusiastically. Its outreach effort, which included a folk-style music video featuring a singer playing an acoustic guitar against a colorful and scenic backdrop, had been praised among the law's supporters.

WOW!
That’s less than $10 million per person!
The inefficiency almost cannot be calculated.
I wonder if the government surgeons will do as well?...
BTW .. I think Sebelious is a tranny.
I wonder what the total expenditure is for all of these state exchanges? Have they all spent hundreds of millions?
Sounds like a great use of taxpayers $$$$
Government is ‘non-profit’ so it always gives taxpayers a great deal.
There, fixed it.
Yet the Administration claims a million signed up. Which states are adding such marvelous numbers to the rolls of the taking?
No problem. They can call the janitor during the one hour a month that is available for the program.
And those who HAVE signed up are most assuredly poor people with chronic diseases - those who are not going to contribute one thin dime to their own care.
I wonder who got the money?
She’s a Granny. Over the hills and woods we go....Oh hell no.
OTOH, there were 75,000 Oregonian food stamp participants who signed up for Medicaid....I can’t believe there isn’t more anger. The level of failure must be at such a mind boggling magnitude it hasn’t completely sunk in yet.
It couldn’t happen to a better bunch of Liberal folks. Ya gotta love it.
Oracle should never get another contract. Probably 80% of this is private sector failure.
Some Cover Oregon applicants won't see coverage at start of year
That would be the next question - of the 44,
how many are paying the full amount in order to
subsidize those who are not?
And how many paid out of the 44 ?
Without facts, and the facts being reported, it’s hard to dispute obama’s lies about how many have signed up. However, it’ll be a different story once all the insurance companies show how many HAVEN’T signed up and their profits are disappearing.
Huh!? Please clarify.
One could justly criticize the state of Oregon for not adequately overseeing the work, but Oracle is the contractor paid to do the work. I’ve posted several links on the situation over the past few weeks.
