Why Sarah Palin should have just let it go with Martin Bashir (Heavy-duty Dem-mentia)
The Daily Caller ^ | December 9, 2013 | Paul Goldman, Former VA Democratic Chairman

Posted on 12/10/2013 12:37:31 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Whoops, there it is: Sarah Palin’s fear of enslavement to the Chinese may actually be true. “Don’t wish for something, you just might get it” is a paraphrase of the often-cited Chinese proverb. The former GOP vice presidential nominee had called on MSNBC to cancel Martin Bashir’s talk show. Bashir was, at the time, serving as the conscience of the network, striking fear into those who defied political correctness.

Not since King George has a Brit been so brash. Leaving aside Piers what’s-his-name, perhaps.

To no one’s surprise, a few weeks ago. Marty found something Ms. Palin said to be idiotic. Like that is new? This is the reason Roger Ailes at Fox News decided not to renew her contract, a polite way to say, to quote a great line from the movie “Moneyball,” that “she lacked confidence” at her position as political commentator. Even the Foxy conservatives had long grown tired of Palin’s woe is me conservative victimization routine.

But Marty, trying to earn his bones, as Tony Soprano might have said, couldn’t resist. Had MSNBC not left him twisting in the wind but instead at least done an Ailes-light thing — suspend him, censure him, make him kiss the right behind in Times Square after waiting an hour for a crowd to gather – Mr. Bashir would be in the same place, with a daily television talk show and no real audience. But they refused. He then apologized, hoping this would stem the political bleeding. But an apology without punishment is just spin, a pound of flesh needs to be taken, so to speak.

Since I and many others had called for him to be fired, his resigning is de facto the same thing....

Dems’ mantra? Conservatives should just shut up.

Thus, this clown argues both —

1. Palin rightly lost her gig at FOX NEWS (i.e., she should shut up); AND

2. Palin shouldn’t have responded to Bashir (i.e., she should shut up).

If only conservatives would shut up, Democrats could enjoy the diverse political discourse they claim to prize.

Back in 1927 an American socialist, Norman Thomas, six times candidate for president on the Socialist Party ticket, said the American people would never vote for socialism. But he said under the name of liberalism the American people will adopt every fragment of the socialist program.

There are many ways in which our government has invaded the precincts of private citizens, method of earning a living; our government is in business to the extent of owning more than 19,000 businesses covering 47 different lines of activity. This amounts to a fifth of the total industrial capacity of the United States.

But at the moment I would like to talk about another way because this threat is with us, and at the moment, is more imminent.

One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine.

It’s very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project, most people are a little reluctant to oppose anything that suggests medical care for people who possibly can’t afford it.

Now, the American people, if you put it to them about socialized medicine and gave them a chance to choose, would unhesitatingly vote against it. We had an example of this. Under the Truman administration it was proposed that we have a compulsory health insurance program for all people in the United States, and, of course, the American people unhesitatingly rejected this.

So with the American people on record as not wanting socialized medicine...

Now , Congressman Ferrand, brought the program out on that idea out , on just for that particular group of people. But Congressman Ferrand was subscribing to this foot-in-the door philosophy, because he said, “If we can only break through and get our foot inside the door, then we can expand the program after that...

Now in our country under our free-enterprise system we have seen medicine reach the greatest heights that it has in any country in the world. Today, the relationship between patient and doctor in this country is something to be envied any place. The privacy, the care that is given to a person, the right to chose a doctor, the right to go from one doctor to the other.

But let’s also look from the other side. The freedom the doctor uses. A doctor would be reluctant to say this. Well, like you, I am only a patient, so I can say it in his behalf. The doctor begins to lose freedoms, it’s like telling a lie. One leads to another. First you decide the doctor can have so many patients. They are equally divided among the various doctors by the government, but then the doctors are equally divided geographically, so a doctor decides he wants to practice in one town and the government has to say to him he can’t live in that town, they already have enough doctors. You have to go some place else. And from here it is only a short step to dictating where he will go.

This is a freedom that I wonder if any of us has a right to take from any human being. I know how I’d feel if you my fellow citizens, decided that to be an actor I had to be a government employee and work in a national theater. Take it into your own occupation or that of your husband. All of us can see what happens once you establish the precedent that the government can determine a man’s working place and his working methods, determine his employment. From here it’s a short step to all the rest of socialism, to determining his pay and pretty soon your son won’t decide when he’s in school where he will go or what he will do for a living. He will wait for the government to tell him where he will go to work and what he will do....

She did. She let it go. The most gracious act of letting something go I ever have seen. If I was Todd, I would have found Bashir and strangled his gay Marxist neck.

Reagan was very much like our Founding Fathers in his ability to see the consequences, well into the future, of poorly thought out decisions by some Americans. I am without doubt that he would be horrified at the state of this country today.

Did Palin herself suggest that Bashir’s show be cancelled?

After reading a small portion of Comrade Goldman’s screed, as a Canadian who knows little of American law, is marijuana and LSD now legal in Virginia?

Mr. Bashir would be in the same place, with a daily television talk show and no real audience.

The only sanity in an insane editorial.

Plus, what gave him the right to characterize the Palin/Fox departure?

As long as Palin speaks, everyone listens; including the MSM.

Perhaps the MSM is being marginalized, themselves; finally.

Apparently, and Mr. Goldman seems to have availed himself to both at the same time, in mass quantities.

Paul Goldman attempts to claim that if Martin Bashir had to lose his job for insulting Sarah Palin, any conservative TV commentator that insults a left-wing personality/politician will have to lose their job in the name of (all together now) equality.

Goldman contends that if Mrs. Palin had simply 'let it go' - not publicly taken offense at Bashire commenting that someone should defaecate in her mouth - Bashir wouldn't have had to 'resign' and conservatives would not have to explain why they should not resign if they insult a leftist politician.

Convoluted and absurd attempt to say that conservatives deserve to be insulted in the most vile manner and they should just take it. The arrogance and stupidity of the left never fails to simultaneously annoy and amuse.
