DOVER, Del. (AP) - The state of Delaware is working to set up a task force to help residents with a hoarding problem.

As many as 45,000 people in the state are estimated to have problems with hoarding.

In advance of the hoarding task force, the state is creating an advisory panel to try to determine stakeholders who may be able to offer input into hoarding issues.

Because when the SHTF and your basement is stocked full of food, water, medicines and ammo, it will be easier for them to declare that you have a hoarding problem and intervene. For your own good, of course.

BINGO! My thoughts exactly.

No offense taken. But the mental illness is two part: a) the state is a privately run duchy of Liberals; which causes b) Conservatives to loose their minds.

Does anyone see a veiled threat against preppers and prepping.

Delaware is a wonderful place to live. Far from the madding crowd.

Are they accusing dogs and cats of hoarding? Will they be sent to animal psychiatrists for retraining?

Only if they've been owned in groups of twenty or more.

This is going point-by-point right down the Stalin checklist. They are leaving NO effort unreplicated.

Indeed.

Generally, those people lived through the Great Depression and remember having absolutely nothing. Since then they have saved everything for the next time they will have to “make do” because of government caused depression & famine.

>> What right does Gov’t have to even be involved in such an issue.

They’re just looking out for themselves — because if you have too much stuff, it’s a problem for them to dispose of it all when they take your nice house away (THANK YOU EMINENT DOMAIN! THANK YOU SANDRA O’CONNOR!) and force you into that 400 square foot apartment in the “sustainable urban living” high rise.

The good news is, you’ll have solar power! Cool huh?

I’d love to hear how policemen are “stakeholders” in this affair. Actually, I’d love to hear how the state considers itself a “stakeholder”.

My mom has an ugly, no longer working mass produced lamp from the early 80’s in our basement. She keeps it because some day she may know someone who can fix it and who wants it. The oven hasn’t worked in years, she uses it for storage. Her bedroom is so packed full of stuff she has to sleep in the living room. When confronted about it she gets defiant and says “Well you can just wait and clean it out when I die.”. My response of “i’ll clean with a gas can and a lighter” doesn’t seem to help. But its not the governments business!

What about those “hoarding” guns, gold or ammunition? Will this allow the heavy boot of the state to come down upon those people in order to “help” them?

Wow, the benevolent state, always waiting in the wings to straighten people out.

I think you are right. Either the depression or maybe sometime in their lives when they had nothing or almost nothing.

Not going to be caught that way again.

>> 45,000 people? 5% of the state’s population?

Yeah maybe, but you have to think that through carefully...

probably 44,000 of them are defined as “hoarders” because they have TWO or more bricks of .22LR.

;-)

The state motto of Delaware is "Liberty and Independence".

Suggest they change it: "Liberty In Dependence"

They’re getting into everything to collect info about what they consider political enemies or suspects.

Who has what, where and how much. Share the data with all gubmit agencies, et voila, they can confiscate anything and everything in no time!

I think it really depends on the property. If it is in residential and the house is filled with filth (or a townhome, apartment) that creates problems for the surrounding taxpayer (vermin). If we are talking 10 acres, its none of the states business (unless there are kids involved but Delaware should already have a CPS).
