My mom has an ugly, no longer working mass produced lamp from the early 80’s in our basement. She keeps it because some day she may know someone who can fix it and who wants it. The oven hasn’t worked in years, she uses it for storage. Her bedroom is so packed full of stuff she has to sleep in the living room. When confronted about it she gets defiant and says “Well you can just wait and clean it out when I die.”. My response of “i’ll clean with a gas can and a lighter” doesn’t seem to help. But its not the governments business!
I have a problem with the spousal unit that holds on to way too many newspapers and catalogs, paper in general really.
Sometimes I pick off a few old catalogs that are usually a couple years old. If I suggest real tossing or consolidation, you’d think I want to destroy the library of Alexandria. There are only a few but notable concentrations though.
I wished I knew how to break a pack rat mentality.
