Friedman speaks truth: but what would be MSM reaction to a conservative who spoke it? Ping to Today show list.

The accent is a bit annoying from the men, but the women engineers speaking that way knocks me out.

Excellent point and one that will probably be ignored by the drive by media.

Friedman's stealing an idea of ours that's several years old... Intellectual plagiarism after this many years is probable OK... If Friedman wants to be edgy he could say our numbers would be more competitive if black Americans were left out of the statistics - blacks are the community that's not pulling their weight.

About 20 years ago the premier of Japan pointed out this fact, and was Mau-Maued into apologizing. What he stated was that the educational system in the US was not failing. That the test scores of non-black and non-hispanic students ranked with any country in the world. That Japan should not rest on its laurels, it was still neck and neck with the US. In my neck of the woods my kids attend a public high school that is roughly 75% white and 25% Asian. The test scores are through the roof. It is better academically then any of the private or parochial schools around it. 10 miles down the road in a town that is predominately minority, but not overly poverty stricken, the schools are a disaster. I remember a radio host once said their is nothing wrong with the public schools that a few million more better students wouldn't solve.

The first step in making this country work again and in improving race relations - is to be honest. It’s not easy to tell the truth but you’ve done it, gusty. One step in a thousand mile journey...

I have worked with many Chinese (from China). Completely different from Chinese-Americans.
I like it. they know they are operating in a foreign culture, so are open to learning and aware their views may not always be correct. They also work hard and expect results. Finally, they have no concept of the ridiculous and stupid American concepts of political correctness.

The correct way to address a Chinese superior is “Bloss”. I learned this from watching Mr. Magoo years ago.
Kids today are prevented from achieving the same cultural awareness we had has kids.

“That the test scores of non-black and non-hispanic students ranked with any country in the world.”
Good point, the U.S. is not a single demographic, so it would be naive in the extreme to expect test scores to be as representative as if they were testing a single demographic.
If I recall correctly, aren’t our Asian-American students some of the highest PISA scorers in the world, beating out ANY Asian nation? If I recall some of my readings, I seem to recall that our hispanic population outscores much or all of Latin America, and our white demographic slides in at the top of the European pile.
A better, more accurate way to look out our comparative rankings in international scholastic achievement is to think of the U.S. as being composed of the brightest Asians, Europeans, Hispanics and Africans in the world attending schools as good or better than most you’ll find on other continents.
It’s just that when you average all four groups together you get a regression back to the mean; which ain’t pretty I’ll tell ya.

Given my druthers, I’d rather work for an Indian than a Chinese.
Something about the mindset has much more in common with American thinking.

In answer to your question, Thomas Friedman was racially insensitive. He must resign or be fired. He should not work in news any more but wait in a hole until the singularity.
