FORTUNE -- It was the firing heard around America. George Zimmer was out at The Men's Wearhouse (MW), after 40 years and countless television ads in which he guaranteed that customers would like the way they look.

The company's initial termination announcement was terse and without explanation, sparking social media outrage among some customers and fans. It then provided a more detailed explanation, essentially alleging that Zimmer was unable to accept that he was no longer CEO of the company he founded -- Zimmer handed the reins over to Doug Ewert in 2011, but remained executive chairman -- and alleged that he had been working to take the company private. Zimmer hired a PR firm and responded in a blistering public letter...

If he were just more of a man, he would be George Zimmerman.

good.maybe I can shop there now

The Mens' Warehouse in my town is in a dump strip mall with a puny inventory, compared to the JA Banks store which is in an upscale mall with a wide selection in my 41L size.

bankers and lawyers are the last people who wear suits everyday.

I had to hire two lawyers a couple of years back (One for my wife and me, one for the kids), during a contested adoption. In their offices, I never saw them wearing a suit or tie but in court appearences, both always wore suits.

The guy is a punk. He sat in my Mom’s assigned seat on a plane about 15 years ago and refused to move. My Mom ended up crammed against a window in another row to avoid a confrontation. This punk is lucky I wasn’t on that flight.

Did the board mistook George Zimmer for George Zimmerman?

That’s what happens when you wear a hoodie. People don’t like the way you look.

If he had just been dressed in a nice suit then George Zimmer would have liked the way he looked. I guarantee it.

I worked at The Anaheim Theme Park, in the 90’s. The founder’s nephew, Roy, was there, early one morning, and I happened to be sitting nearby, but out of sight. The comments that he made about those running his late Uncle Walt’s business were scathing, to say the least.
