FULL TITLE: 'Oh you're gonna shoot me?' The sarcastic last words of straight-A student shot dead by college cop after being stopped for speeding
- University student Cameron Redus, 23, was shot and killed by a campus police officer
- According to police, the officer tried to pull Redus over for driving erratically and speeding
- The two pulled into the parking lot of Redus' apartment block
- Minutes later, Redus was shot 'four to six times' by Carter
- Redus was a straight-A student set to graduate in May
- Alamo Heights police and Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting
- Carter is on administrative leave during the investigation
A witness says he heard the sarcastic final words of a Texas student moments before he was shot dead by a college police officer.
Robert Cameron Redus, 23, was killed when Corporal Chris Carter, 35, opened fire on him in the early hours of Friday morning a few blocks away from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio where Redus studied, set to graduate in May.
Neighbour Mohammad Haidaras told My San Antonio that he heard a tense exchange between Redus and Carter sixty seconds before shots rang out.
He told the website: 'I heard (a man) say, 'Oh, you're gonna shoot me?' like sarcastic almost.'
The 22-year-old claims he heard gunshots less than a minute later and jumped into his closet.
Investigators say an altercation began when Carter tried to pull Redus over for speeding and driving erratically.

I think we give the suspect the benefit of the doubt in this country if there is no evidence don’t we? I think we definitely have a case here where the rent a cop went rogue.

“UIW police carry pepper spray in addition to firearms, according to the release. This is the first suspect shooting in UIW history, according to the release.
The dash cam on Carter’s marked pickup truck had fallen off and officers had made arrangements to have it remounted, according to the university.” the dash cam had fallen off..

Well, that’s his story.
“The dash cam on Carter’s marked pickup truck had fallen off and officers had made arrangements to have it remounted, according to the university.”
Convenient. I guess we’ll never know the other side of this story.

I’d say this little tin god cop is DHS material.

Same here. So-called “first responders” were deified after 9/11. They’ve come a long way down since then, believing their own PR, bulking up their union coffers and equipping themselves like a dictator’s army. I neither trust nor rely on any of them any more.

Not that it can possibly justify or excuse the alleged actions on the part of the cop...but this seems like an exceptionally stupid thing to say to an armed individual.
I could think of a lot of other things to say when confronted with this situation. "Please don't shoot...I'm unarmed, I have my hands up and in clear view," for instance, seems appropriate under such circumstances.
The last thing I want to do is give an armed individual any reason (even a completely lousy one) to pull the trigger. Doing otherwise just doesn't seems prudent.

Because in all reality this is a liability issue. If a gunman comes on campus and kills 17 students the school isnt liable, but if one college professor has an accidental discharge or loses a gun which the school sanctioned, that would put the school at risk. This isnt an issue about safety, its an issue over who pays. When my offspring started at an ostensibly Catholic university, there was a parents' orientation. The woman conducting it explained that drinking would absolutely not be allowed on the campus; and that students must be over 21 to drink off campus. However, there were co-ed dorms, girls and boys living on the same floor, and the RA's would explain to the kids about "sexiling" -- when the roommate leaves so their roomie can have sex with someone else in the shared room. Again, it comes down to liability. It's against the law for underage kids to drink, and if they do it in public the school is affected. But if someone's kid away from home for the first time gets pregnant, gets someone else pregnant or gets an STD or AIDS? That's a personal private family matter.
Ptooey.

Only victims US media care about are non-white or minorities of some kind.
Seriously? The media isn't interested in non-White victims if the perpetrator isn't White.

UIW: Student attacked officer with baton before shootingFrom your link:
"The dash cam on Carter's marked pickup truck had fallen off and officers had made arrangements to have it remounted, according to the university."
Oh, please. Why in the world would a straight-A student about to graduate from a religious college wrestle a baton away from a police officer for a traffic stop? It does not make any sense.

If the murdered student had been black, and the police white, we would have riots in San Antonio and around United States with Sharpton and Jesse Jackson at the front of the mobs, and Obama will adopt the dead student as his own son.
Where is the picture of the murderer cop? I BET HE IS BLACK!

I’m implying that there is a big difference between, “what are you gonna do, shoot me?” followed immediately by gunshots and the gunshots follwoing “less than a minute” later.
There is not enough information in the article to cause one to say that the cop did not, in fact, fire in self defense.
And I’ve known my share of “straight A students” that also belonged in Jail.
