You, Sir, Are No Abe Lincoln

On November 19, 1863 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, President Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address, arguably the most famous speech in history.

On November 19, 2013, the first black President of the United States blew off the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. This from a President who has repeatedly claimed he had much in common with President Lincoln.

The White House spin zone worked frantically on some kind of an acceptable excuse for the snub but the truth is pretty obvious, President Obama would be smart to avoid any side-by-side comparison to President Lincoln. These two men don’t have subtle differences; they are polar opposites, worlds apart, night and day.

One man was honest to a fault, a leader who believed in America, the Constitution, freedom, and self-government. The other man is tangled in a growing web of lies, a President who believes in ever-expanding controlling government, oppression of his enemies, and total disregard for the Constitution and American people.

To sum it up, President Obama – You, sir, are no Abe Lincoln.

President Lincoln earned his nickname “Honest Abe” because of his dedication to the truth. Once, finding he’d taken a few cents more from a customer than was due, he closed the store, and walked a long distance to return the money.

Another time, he saw he’d given a customer too little tea for her money. He weighed out what was due, and carried it to her, much to the surprise of the woman, who hadn’t realized her order was short.

There are countless stories of President Lincoln’s honesty just as there are countless stories of President Obama’s deceit.Many of Obama’s lies were cloaked in the immunity of campaign promises, cut the deficit, reduce the national debt, eliminate lobbyists, etc. Obama’s defenders might argue that these are just broken campaign promises not lies but that argument is in itself a lie.

The Obama administration is on track to double the national debt, has already increased the debt more than all other Presidents combined, hardly a misstep.

Candidate Obama assured Americans that as President he would eliminate lobbyists; to date he’s hired over 100 lobbyists to work for his Administration, hardly an oversight.

And the list goes on but even if you ignore the political lies, you can’t ignore those other lies, the in-your-face lies that are not only not Lincolnesque but Stalinesque.

The Benghazi lies – President Obama, the Secretary of State, and the UN Ambassador, among others rebroadcast the lie over and over again that the attack on our U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya was spontaneous and grew out of a demonstration against an anti-Islam video. This meme proved to be completely false, a coordinated cover-up by the Obama Administration to distort the facts regarding the attack. Yet the Obama Administration never had to answer for foisting this lie on the American people. Four Americans slaughtered, calling for help as they were left for dead, yet neither Obama nor any of his staff has yet to answer for their murder.

Obamacare lies – To support the government takeover of the U.S. health system, the entire Democratic party stepped up to support and propagate the lies. Not spontaneous, off-the-cuff lies but a planned coordinated propaganda campaign to manipulate the public and stop the people’s outrage until they could push the bill through.

“If you like your healthcare plan, you’ll be able to keep your healthcare plan.”
- Five million policies cancelled, another 150 million gone within the next year.

“I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits.”
– CBO estimates went from $814 billion to $1.047 trillion to 6.2 trillion long term.

“Obamacare will cut the cost of a typical family’s premium by up to $2,500 a year.”
- Premiums will rise from 5% to 99%. Subsidies only temporarily mask the increases.

“I don’t believe that government can or should run healthcare.”
- Hundreds of thousands of Americans are losing their policies, forced into the “Marketplace.”

Lie after lie flows from this Administration as the President denies knowledge of the IRS, NSA, Fast & Furious scandals.. The pure volume of deceit from this Administration is probably why the American people are numb to the flagrant unconstitutional actions of this President. The people have been cowed by the compliant media, never-ending propaganda, and the lies.

Yet even with everything else going on, with so many examples of Obama rejecting America, eyebrows were raised when President Obama refused to attend the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address; a speech that has come to symbolize the definition of democracy itself. The last lines of that speech have echoed through generations to inspire Americans and remind us of our unique government that allows total and complete individual freedom.

“that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

No doubt President Lincoln would turn in his grave if he knew how Obama and his Democratic Congress has trampled those ideals, “transformed” his inspiring words into a meaningless quote.

Of the people - Our government was meant to be comprised of ordinary citizens, not Monarchy, Royalty, or Clergy but one of us. Yet our government today rules as royalty, power brokers above the whims and passions of the common folk, above the people.

By the people – Our Constitution’s promise that we will govern ourselves by elected representatives, not appointed, not born into it, nor seated by coup. Yet a coup it is as our “elected representatives” defy the people, abandon our interests, even fight our right to hold honest elections.

For the people - That our government will represent us, work for us, do what’s in our best interest, not theirs. But again that idea has been turned on its head as we’re straddled with a government that thinks it knows best, fights against the people and ignores our will.

There’s no clearer example of this government’s total disregard, even contempt, for the people than Obamacare. On March 20, 2010 the eve of the final Obamacare vote, Congressional phone lines melted down, emails flooded the airwaves, and hundreds of thousands marched on the Capitol to protest the bill, all in vain.

On March 21, Congress passed the law in spite of public outcry.

Then, when Obamacare launched and the people met the devil in the details, resistance grew to unparalleled levels until even the President’s most loyal minions started inching towards retreat. Yet still no move to repeal the bill, no move to stop the government’s assault on America.

Americans are left scratching their heads, why is Congress ignoring them? Why is the government stepping up their game to “improve” the law, to “sell the law”, to “keep the law” when it’s a horrible law that’s destroying the U.S. economy, a law the American people clearly don’t want. Why?

After a huge rally at the Capitol to protest Obamacare, Howard Fineman blogged the following on his Newsweek site:

“I’m sitting in the House Press Gallery writing a piece for Newsweek. It’s almost 10 pm and the House is moving toward a vote. On the plaza below, outside the Capitol, I can hear the remnants of a raucous Tea Party crowd. They are chanting “Nancy! Nancy!” and “Kill the Bill.” They just sang “God Bless America.” I’ve been around a while, and don’t remember a crowd of foes trying to shout down a bill from outside as the vote approached. Maybe it’s happened. Though the voices are faint, they’re worth noting–and remembering.”

You’re right, Mr. Fineman, the people’s voice should be noted and remembered.

To paraphrase President Lincoln’s famous quote:

. . . that government who puts themselves above the people, who defy the people, and ignore the people, shall surely perish from the earth.

And we’re dangerously close to letting the government of what was once the greatest nation on earth, perish.

God help us!

The evocations of Lincoln and Reagan were for first-year Obama, when he was busy receiving Nobels for not doing anything and his supporters could attach any silly fantasy they wanted to him. Fifth-year Obama has a long, disastrous track record and mentioning great presidents or honoring their anniversaries would only remind people how lacking Obama is by comparison.
