REP. BOB GOODLATTE (R-VA): Professor Turley, the constitution, the system of separated powers is not simply about stopping one branch of government from usurping another. It's about protecting the liberty of Americans from the dangers of concentrated government power. How does the president's unilateral modification of act of Congress affect both the balance of power between the political branches and the liberty interests of the American people?
JONATHAN TURLEY: Thank you, Mr. Chairman. The danger is quite severe. The problem with what the president is doing is that he's not simply posing a danger to the constitutional system. He's becoming the very danger the Constitution was designed to avoid. That is the concentration of power in every single branch.

I was talking to a gentleman at the first Utah Tea Party back in 2008. We were voicing our concerns over the way the country was headed. He said he believed the time is coming when we will have to stand behind the Constitution. I said I believe the time is coming when we will have to stand in front of the Constitution with our Second Amendment rights in our hands. Five years later, and I hold that belief even more strongly today.
.....there was music in the cafés at night.......
Did you notice how his lips are the same color as his purple tie!
I was hoping someone would post about this.
Lib Jonathan Turley used to be MSNBCs expert forever explaining how so many of GWBs actions were unconstitutional.
Then last night I saw on FNC he testified to GOP house committee about Obama’s unconstitutional overreach of power.
I laughed and thought :”No more invitations to be on MSNBC anymore for John”
Gotta love it
The Vice President can only vote to break a tie, so he would have no vote in this?
I remember that comment.
Truly bizarre.
The thing reads like it was written by children, not a bunch of so called left wing intellectuals.
Only someone with the mind of a child would take it serious.
Yes, we do, we have 2 options.
One is civil, Article V convention.
It is the colossal expansion of the “Fourth Branch” that ultimately brought about this Constitutional Crisis. The corruption of the press was a second prerequisite. Imagine in 1970 when there were hints that Nixon “might” use the IRS as a weapon against political enemies. The media went nuts and everyone reacted with shock and horror. Today, the IRS is DELIBERATELY being given unfettered power over the most intimate and personal details of our lives, has virtually unlimited access to information. And yes, it is being used against political enemies.
From the press, barely a whisper. From the masses, nothing but fear. This was not possible a generation ago, because the government wasn’t big enough to do it. Now it is. It has become a slavemaster simply because it can.
So the unconstitutional president is now master of a bureaucratic leviathan, and the press remains silent. The last two pieces of the picture are the emasculation of the Supreme Court and impotence of Congress. I have no doubt that Chief Justice Roberts was blackmailed to changing his vote on the constitutionality of 0bamacare, which has effectively brought the Court to heel and removed it as an obstacle.
The impotency of Congress is self-evident from the corruption and rot that has infested that institution ever since the GOP forgot about its Contract with America. But if there is one key player there, it is Harry Reid. Ever since 0bamacare was passed, he has deliberately thwarted any meaningful legislation in the Senate, causing Congressional paralysis. It’s the excuse for executive rule by fiat, and 0bama openly states that is what he will do. If he can get a fig-leaf rubber stamp from Congress, great. Looks good on paper. But he is perfectly willing to rule by decree if he can’t get the rubber-stamp.
Comrade Turley, welcome to the revolution. You do realize you helped as a willing foot soldier in the march “forward,” don’t you?
Yes, sir it is, and I think it is going to be Hell on earth.
“You can see it when the GOP attacks the Tea Party, they seem to think the status-quo is OK...they dont see the sea of change before them.”
The GOP doesn’t realize they are the Mensheviks and Social Revolutionaries. They think they are playing in the good ol’ boys club of “go along-get along” while the communist/democrat party is waging a war of extermination against them.
The one I read went way beyond a right to govt services, it spelled out certain “things and FEELINGS” you had a right to which would be different for different people.
For example, you have a right to be happiness so the govt must make you happy.
he he I think I saw that post....
The states ceded the prime part of their power with the 17th Amendment nearly a century ago. They gave up being inside the process and the prediction of Lincoln was essentially complete when he remarked about “saving the Union only to sacrifice the Republic.”
Yep.
I hope Saturday goes well and the wheels of the states start to turn again.
Jonathan Turley’s a smart guy... if he was raggin’ on Bush, Bush probably deserved it.
“-—US robs $13B from venerable bank”
Dimon dared the UNTHINKABLE, the unallowable....
He publicly criticized the Media Messiah while in a position with government oversight.
The example had to be made, before others got that brave. and believe me, the message has been received by Big Corp CEO’s. load and clear.
Don’t forget how close Turley was to the Clinton’s. He defended Bill Clinton to the bitter end. He is a very important legal and media person that many on the left will follow. Lets give him the benefit of a doubt that he is sincere on this issue(I believe him to be)but don’t doubt that he is softening the ground for Hillary.
“Our so-called conservative House is fundamentally complicit in this.”
Our “Conservative” House is scared sh*tless, actually. They KNOW that the Radical Socialists in the White House have no qualms whatsoever with using illegally gotten IRS/NSA/Obamacare/Medical, etc., info against them.
If they can’t find anything, they can count on the willing, or scared, allies in the Mainstream Media to simply make something up, and run 24/7 slamming it home.
We are at the SAME point as Germany in 1934. They just haven’t come for the guns. YET....
