Adirondacks, Finger Lakes, Watkins Glen, The Katskaals, Niagara Falls, Thousand Islands....
New York is very, very diverse geology-wise.
I often miss the place, but never miss the politics!
I guess the only other added bonus is I don’t miss the black flies either!
(I was born in Rochester)
Lake Mohawk is still privately owned. So this was not the last resort in the Catskills.
It’s been done before - long before.
Most of those resorts, and their patrons weren’t all that fancy but they provided a one price vacation with some of the best entertainers and Kosher food. I’ll bet a week at a Wyoming dude ranch for a family of 4 costs more than a week at Grossinger’s and you don’t have to eat pulled pork. :)
I’ve never had 6the opportunity to go to the Adirondak mountains-I do not have any friends or relatives there-the pictures of the area are lovely, though.
You should just go check out Lake George it is beautiful you would love it.
One of the best golf courses in the country was in the Catskills. At the Concord, the Monster played over 7000 yards. Kutchers had a sports academy many of city kids went to for a week or so over the summer. We rode horses at the PWP and Jewish singles functions at Rocking Horse Dude Ranch.
I miss the country.
I don’t know what they charge or eat in Wyoming-I’ve only been there once, to visit a friend, not a dude ranch-but they do/did not serve pulled pork in the dude/guest ranches around here-in the less expensive ones, they served grilled ribs, steak, chicken, fresh vegetables, salad, stuff like that-but the golf club ones where you got a condo instead of a cabin had white napkin dining rooms, wine cellars and haute cuisine. Neither one is my idea of “roughing it”, but I suppose it is all in the eye of the beholder...
Perhaps one day, if the economy ever improves-but honestly-having had a husband in the military, I’m not keen on traveling more than 60-70 miles...
Well god bless him is he deployed?
I’ve been a widow for awhile now-MrT5 was in the Army for 30 years, but was working as a civilian at the time of his death.
Grossingers was from an era when many Jews were barred from a lot of clubs and resorts. Also if people kept Kosher Jewish owned resorts catered to them. Leaving a sweltering NYC for a couple of weeks just up the Hudson River was very affordable to the average working family back in the day
I’m sorry to hear that.
