China will tomorrow become the first country in almost 40 years to soft-land a probe on the moon, in a huge step forward for its ambitious space programme.

The nation will become the third in history to launch a lunar probe when the device, named 'Jade Rabbit' after a Chinese folklore character, launches at 5.30pm on Sunday evening, which is 1.30am local time.

The mission forms part of a plan in which China hopes to build a permanent lunar base in order to launch future missions to Mars within the next 15 years.

By the time the Chinese are on the Moon we’ll be on Mars (if Fedzilla doesn’t interfere).

Mars One is a non-profit organization that plans to establish a permanent human colony on Mars by 2023. The private spaceflight project is led by Dutch entrepreneur Bas Lansdorp, who announced plans for the Mars One mission in May 2012.[1]

Mars One claims that in 2022, four carefully selected applicants will then be launched in a Mars-bound spaceflight to become the first residents on Mars, and that every step of the crew’s journey will be documented for a reality television program that will broadcast 24/7/365.

“[2:00]The rover is arriving at the perigee.”
Don’t know what they mean by this.

“[1:58]The rocket has completed its mission.”
We understand that the rocket has done it’s job to get the satellite headed to the Moon.

“[2:02]Chang’e 3 will set up a telescope on the moon first time in human history, observe the plasmasphere over the Earth and survey the moon surface through radar.”

Why the US hasn’t put an optical or at least a radio telescope on the Moon befuddles me. Now the Chi-Coms are ahead of us in this respect.

Good thing they are building a moon base.

Have they already negotiated a lease? The US has claimed that territory by planting the flag there (not Mars) It should be quite expensive.

Or did the peanut farmer give that away too?

The US did not claim it. They came in peace for all mankind.

Technically the Chinese are part of mankind

I would not be surprised if the reason the space shuttle was scrapped is that we do have the means of space transport that will be kept top secret for years to come.

Either that, or the Communist secret agent man wanted to destroy our space program.

Muslims own the moon, dontcha know? They worship the moon god.

Does that mean the Chicoms will have to pay them rent? That'll drive up our sublease rent.

The meter on Obama's damage to America isn't running, it's screaming.

Oh brother. What a bunch of panty-wasters.

They came in peace for all mankind.

Why didn't they just plant a UN flag then?

We were just kidding! I say we rescind that statement and claim it as US territory...manifest destiny and all that.

I agree with you! I wish we would have built the first habitats up there on those trips. Send up some unmanned stuff to be buried later and all that

The U.S. should of had a small exploration base with an optical/radio observatory on the lunar surface decades ago...

The government should have started giving *major* tax incentives/cuts to the private aerospace industry years ago.

It's insane...All this while the U.S. governemnt mismanaged us into cesspool of endless debt to the Communist Chinese, while looting the American treasure, all while inviting the entire their world into our country.

These idiots are too GD stupid or self centered to realize this planet and it's resources, and in fact our star have a shelf life.

If the human race plans on surviving into the distant future, they'd better be looking towards that endeavor now, one step at a time.

Or do they even give a damn what happens when they're arrogant narcissistic butts are gone?

Don't mean to disrupt your thread but, but watching the Communist Chinese do this, while our controlling corrupt government loots American citizens and the American treasure, makes me recoil.

I think your “disruption” is fine with me. There are reasons the establishment does not want the public to go to space, the Moon, Mars and beyond.

All they want to do is use collectivism to keep us down.

Think of Gulliver, from “Gulliver’s Travels,” who lands on Liliput after he washes ashore from his shipwreck only to find he becomes a prisoner to a race of tiny people only about 6 inches tall.

I think of the Leftist as a bunch of Liliputians who have America (Gulliver) held prisoner. And if we could see these the Left from a spiritual point of view we would only see them as being about 6 inches tall.

Then they’ll build a catapult, and sling moon rocks at us whenever they want to.

As a retiring executive from a skunk works entity remarked, “If you can dream it, we have already done it”! I would not be surprised if the reason the space shuttle was scrapped is that we do have the means of space transport that will be kept top secret for years to come.

LOL, right.

That's why NASA depends on the Russian Soyuz to shuttle astronauts back and forth, because Amerixan lives need to be risked in Soviet rockets to keep a "secret".
