TOKYO China sent fighter jets into its newly declared air defense zone Thursday on what state media called the countrys first air patrol since it declared control of the airspace. The announcement came hours after Japan and South Korea sent their own military planes into the airspace over the East China Sea, testing Chinas resolve to enforce its declaration.
The announcement of the flights came just days after unarmed American B-52 bombers flew through the same zone in defiance of China. Beijing later said that it had monitored the American bombers but had chosen not to take action even though the planes did not tell the Chinese they were coming, as the government now demands.
On Thursday, the top Japanese government spokesman, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, said that the Chinese had not been notified of the Japanese flights, and reported that China did not scramble its fighter jets to intercept the planes.
The South Korean government announced that it, too, had flown aircraft through the zone, on Wednesday, without alerting Beijing, a flight Chinese officials said they had monitored. The South Koreans said they had sent a surveillance aircraft.
Like Japan, South Korea claims sovereignty over territory in the zone, but enjoys warmer ties with Beijing than Japan does.
Japan did not specify how many patrols had flown through the zone or when the flights were made.

All it would take is one itchy trigger finger
It was my take that early on the argument about the Spratley Islands should have been the time to take on the Chinese. Nobody has said no to their demands before this, so what did we expect but more adventurism?
We finance China’s ascension, and then are surprised that a rogue nation would act like a rogue nation. Many people tried to argue for going slow on China.
I am one of them. I was ridiculed here resoundingly for fifteen years because of it.
Well, the real payoff is coming folks. Enjoy.
When it really hits the fan, try to find one person who will admit supporting turning China into a super-power.
what are they going to do ? Shoot down commercial air liners ? Another KAL007 ? Claim they didn’t know ? So many air routes go right over those little islands . The solution is simple ; tell China in no uncertain terms ; if you destroy ANY aircraft enforcing your stupid self created exclusion rules , a total and complete ban will immediately be instituted on all products originating in China . No exceptions . It will all be thrown overboard and no payments will be made . That would be the last you would hear of this air exclusion zone . Fricken chinks .
I gotta agree with this post.
We are currently importing a HUGE section of what Americans buy in every store in America, from China.
China.
America has a very high unemployment rate, yet we keep Americans out of work, so that Chinese can hold jobs sending products back to America.
This is totally screwed up.
Bring back American jobs now.
I got a Chinese jet fighter at Harbor Freight last week.
I was looking at Toyotas, but this is a little faster.
We’ll reap the rewards of our one way economic relationship with China yet.
Obama would love to escalate this into a violent conflict.
Anything to take the focus away from Obamacare.
I wonder how long they can loiter.
What they need is an airstrip on these islands so all these planes can land and the pilots can get some lunch.
I am glad to see the US, Japan and S Korean thumb their noses at the Chinese imperialists
good idea and we will immediately pay them all the debt we owe too, right?
There is barely enough level ground on any of them to land a helicopter. They are little else than rocks protruding from the sea. Their value is in the oil that surrounds them.
And you called it right
Anyone supporting Free Trade with Communist China supports Communist Chinese aggression. Not too long ago..if one supported economic aid to a Communist enemy...they were executed for treason
We have one thing that can control Communist China: Raising tariffs on the Communist Chinese. Anyone not supporting increased tariffs on the Communist Chinese...supports them
debt us not the Almighty God
Do you have a better idea?
I’m all for it, give them Hawaii and California.
Please.
