Virginia Republicans should nominate for US Senate for 2014 a highly-respected, conservative African-American woman Kay Cole James. That is necessary because male Republicans appear unprepared to counter Democrat "war on women" smears.
Republican strategist Ralph Reed explained last week that the GOP needs to pick up seven U.S. Senate seats to control the Senate. Reed identifies seven strong opportunities. But the GOP must win all seven States. If a strong candidate runs in Virginia, that would make eight. A strong candidate in New Hampshire would put nine States in play. Michigan could make ten.
In Virginia, despite Terry McAuliffe being the type of phony that women regret having dated, McAuliffe won the votes of Virginia women over Ken Cuccinelli for Governor by 51% to 42%, according to exit polls from CNN, including 91% of Black women who voted for Terry McAuliffe. Unmarried women voted 67% for Terry McAuliffe over 25% for Ken Cuccinelli and 9% for Robert Sarvis.
Democrats recycled their 2012 campaign against Mitt Romney, warning of a Republican War on Women. Liberals have fabricated a theme that conservative Republican men want to take away womens rights and hate women.
Eventually an alert and capable Republican party can turn this problem around. But there is not enough time to achieve such a transformation before November 4, 2014. And the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV) is consumed with insider games. The RPV is focused on dividing up spoils they havent earned yet instead of on winning elections.
Therefore, as a matter of tactics, only a woman can refute the lies that the Republican nominee hates women. And to play that role, no one would be better than an African-American woman. Kay Cole James would be both the first Black US Senator from Virginia in history as well as the first female U.S. Senator from Virginia.
Kay Cole James was Virginias Secretary of Health and Human Resources under Governor George Allen. She served on the Fairfax County School Board and the Virginia State Board of Education. She received the University of Virginia's Publius Award for Public Service. She has extensive national television and speaking experience. She was born in Virginia and graduated from Hampton University.
Kay Cole James served as Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in the Bush Administration She led a department of 3,600 employees with responsibility for all personnel practices and programs for the 1.8 million members of the federal civil service, including stewardship of over $650 billion in federal retirement, health, life, and long-term care insurance assets. She served as the Chair of the Joint Financial Management Improvement Program Principals.
Kay Cole James has served on the Boards of The Heritage Foundation, Focus on the Family, The Salvation Army, PNC Financial Services Group, The Amerigroup Corporation, Virginia Commonwealth University, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and Young Life. She was a member of the NASA Advisory Council, the National Commission on Children, and the Medicaid Commission.
Echoing Republican Abraham Lincoln, could God be arranging that an African-American woman conclude the sins of slavery as US Senator in the former capitol of the Confederacy? Is there a plan "for such a time as this?"
Does she have a RINO/GOP-e streak in her? If so then, NEXT!
I don’t think so. She was on the Board of The Heritage Foundation and Focus on the Family. My sister who was a reporter at CBN News (700 Club, Pat Robertson) loves her after interviewing her many times.
Kay Cole James is on the Speaker’s Bureau for the American Enterprise Insitute (AEI)
Admittedly, today is the first time I have ever heard of Mrs. James. Accordingly, I do not know enough to spout off. But, the central premise of the article seems to be “let’s elect her because she’s black”. Oh, and oh by the way in addition to being black she is a conservative black.
The US Senate has done more damage to this country under Reid’s control than all the wars we have ever been in. So, regaining control from the Marxists is paramount to the issue of whether we set this country straight at the ballot box or with gunfire in the streets.
So, PLEASE, let’s all be careful about supporting candidates for superficial, feel good reasons. Didn’t we just put a guy in the White House
for those reasons?
I agree “blackness” can be pivotal to winning any particular election anywhere and therefore should be weighed carefully. But, damn, let’s get STALWART black candidates like Scott and Alan West and JC Watts, just to name 3. I read Mrs. James bio and see little private sector experience, no entrepreneurial experience and nowhere that she’s signed someone’s paycheck or military service or graduate degrees. Now, my reading was hurried and I will keep an open mind about her. I just want to see the very best candidate in these Senate elections NOT some woman because she is black and a woman and goes to church.
Sign her up!
I worry about anyone who uses their MIDDLE NAME! Judges, lawyers, legislators, all see themselves as so important that we need to know their whole name!
If you’re black and LIBERAL, it’s an advantage.
If you’re black and CONSERVATIVE, you’re an Uncle Tom.
Ask E.W. Jackson. . .
BTTT
I’m listening....
Being a negro does not make one ‘black’- that’s a cultural, not racial, attribute.
she won’t get ‘the black vote’ period.
Neither is the “woman’s vote” a matter of gender but of culture- she is no ‘dumb slut’ enabler so she won’t get ‘the women’s vote’. Period.
She sounds like a good conservative candidate though.
Maybe those ‘identity politics’ factors would help as far as getting contributions from the stupid GOPe donors. That would be nice.
She looks like presidential material to me. We need to get her elected if she is conservative.
Long known as an active opponent of abortion; a Pro-Life activist.
The Hon. Kay Coles James addressing the Black Conservative Summit 2013
And in case your read it too fast ...

FReegards!
Sir, setting aside the latant dis-respect for myself and U.S. Navy Vet contained in your post, my comments OPENED with I did not know enough about Mrs. James to “spout off”. Did you read that part or were you reading too fast?
Furthermore, if you re-read what I said real slowly, you will find that I was talking about “the central premise of the article”, not her! Then, I was talking about the part where the article stressed “she’s black” and “she’s conservative”. You may have missed it but those 2 reasons had a lot to do with the present occupant of the White House getting there. You know, he’s that guy 99% of us on FR love to hate each night!
So, like I said, Mrs. Coles MAY BE a good candidate, but our country’s survival is hanging on the head of a pin. Accordingly, to me, the question is, “IS SHE THE BEST CANDIDATE?”
I don’t think the list of employers (largely government and NPO’s (Non Profit Associations) shown on her resume necessarily or conclusively establishes that she is THE BEST CANDIDATE. And, just in case you and I disagree, I want to be clear. I don’t want any more people put in office solely because of their race or gender? Race or gender could be one/two factor, but not determinative.
I think most of us want someone running for Senate in each state that will WIN regardless of race or gender, and that we can count on to ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS be rock solid conservative and not sell us out. Three that come to mind are Cruz, Palin and West.
One that runs right and then left after the election is Cornynn. So, we must all be very, very careful looking at these candidates this time around. They should be elected and originally supported by all of us for ALL THE RIGHT REASONS!
Then you did no further research about her to educate yourself beyond your ability to make your dismissive comment below.
Now, my reading was hurried and I will keep an open mind about her. I just want to see the very best candidate in these Senate elections NOT some woman because she is black and a woman and goes to church.
Most folks around here have no use for posters who post first, and what ever research they do do, they only do second. Defensively long-winded dissertations never substitute for one's fundamental obligation to do solid research before they post.
And if all you got from your research was that "she is black and a woman and goes to church," you apparently didn't look too far. As just one of the many admirable examples given, running OPM does have the responsibility for negotiating budgets and signing pay checks, and at 3600 employees it is a task the size of running an organization the size of an aircraft carrier.
I've already said Ken's my first choice. Kay would be an able runner-up. Her appeal could be very broad, but for some reason unknown to readers you seem far too worried about the fact that she actually might be a black woman who goes to church.
Then, I was talking about the part where the article stressed shes black and shes conservative. You may have missed it but those 2 reasons had a lot to do with the present occupant of the White House getting there.
Last time I looked, Obama is 1/2 white, he's no conservative, and he credits no conservative stances on anything for the reason he got to the White House.
Your statement makes no sense.
So when you say: "Admittedly, today is the first time I have ever heard of Mrs. James."
And I say "Why don't the two of you take some time to educate yourselves."
... and then provide the link and material to do just that,...
you really have no reason left to whine, and no excuses left not to know more than "she is black and a woman and goes to church."
How about a HOR member with a proven record for voting constitutional conservative who is prepared for the inevitable questions? We already have too many female Republican backstabbers in the US Senate.
bump
.......Sir, we have a saying in Texas that you remind me of and it goes “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink”.......
Happy Thanksgiving
