Radio giant Rush Limbaugh is scorching the leader of the Roman Catholic Church for criticizing unfettered capitalism, saying, “This is just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the pope.”
“You know the pope, Pope Francis has issued an official papal proclamation, and it’s sad,” Limbaugh said on his national broadcast Wednesday. “It’s actually unbelievable. It’s sad because this pope makes it very clear he doesn’t know what he’s talking about when it comes to capitalism and socialism and so forth.”
“I’m not Catholic,” Limbaugh added, “but up until this I admired the man.”
In the 84-page document titled “Evangelii Gaudium,” which was released Tuesday, Pope Francis called upon politicians to provide “dignified work, education and health care” to all citizens.
“The commandment ‘Thou shalt not kill’ sets a clear limit in order to safeguard the value of human life,” wrote the pope. “Today we also have to say ‘thou shalt not’ to an economy of exclusion and inequality. Such an economy kills.”
Noting that he had visited the Vatican “numerous times,” Limbaugh observed wryly: “Believe me, it wouldn’t exist without tons of money. Somebody has either written this for [the pope] or gotten to him. This is pure Marxism.”

I listend to the two segments Limbaugh devoted to the Popes statements. Rush concluded his comments after some banterting with his staff who were indicating the translation he was commenting on may be questioned where he left it at that.
Why don’t you actually listen to what Rush says instead of heavily edited clips that MSNBC puts out before you slam him.
I don’t care what you think about Rush. Hate him. But at least do so with intellectual honesty. Oh and by the way, I listen to the man’s show, so I guess that makes me your stereotypical, cliché. I think the name you posted was, mindless ditty head? How mature, well written and something that makes me actually want to listen to more of what you have to say.

Limbaugh wants UNFETTERED capitalism? The kind that has turned China into a gigantic sewer of poisoned lakes and rivers and where people have to walk around with face masks and eye protection because the air is so poisoned and filthy? Where people have to eat food (animal and plant) that is poisoned with God only knows how many chemicals? No thanks.
Rush may not be 100% right but it seems the pope might find better things to do. I don’t believe his job description includes economist.
Plenty of radio hosts depend on ‘shouting’ to make a point. Rush would NOT be one of them, which proves you do not actively listen to him, but chose to mock him and his audience. Congratulations! You’re officially a liberal.
I hate to say this, but this is just what the Roman Catholic system ruling body has always believed. It just took this pope to come out and say it for folks to see the truth behind what the “corporate” aspect of the RCC really believes. I’m not saying that the members of the RCC believe this, just the ruling elite.
Capitalism is not evil. It causes an efficient production of goods and services. The evil comes from selfishness, materialism, consumerism. Ebenezer Scrooge’s sin was not in creating wealth but in valuing material things more than people.
Liberals can claim no moral superiority over Scrooge because they eagerly throw babies in he trash to “reduce the surplus population.”
Sounds like Rush has been reading too many Chick tracts and listening to too many Tony Alamo podcasts. Sad.
I touched the raw nerve of the third rail, I see. Please explain (to yourself, I don’t care) what is ‘pure Marxism’, because without a supporting explanation that is an ignorant statement, an empty meaningless insult, typical of these radio shouters, whether they actually shout it or not.

His predecessor, Pope John Paul II stated, “Private property, in fact, is under a ‘social mortgage,’ which means that it has an intrinsi-cally social function, based upon and justified precisely by the principle of the universal des-tination of goods.”1 The principle of “the universal destination of goods” is clearly observed in what the present pope endorses in the second part of his encyclical entitled “God is Love.”2 Benedict wholly sanctions the principle of the universal ownership of all goods embalmed in the writings of popes Leo XIII, Pius XI, John XXIII, Paul VI, and John Paul II.3 The phrase, “all goods,” includes not only the goods found in nature but manufactured goods as well. It’s one thing to specify the outcome, the implementation is a different matter.
The second resounding message of Christianity is essentially charity which is nothing new and unfortunately, often smells like Socialism. But the important distinction in the smell is the request made by religious leaders opposed to the iron-fisted demand made by govt. So, you are correct in saying the Pope’s request, in the context of this era, is not Marxist.
I enjoy listening Rush, but he’s having difficulty these last 5 years. And that’s not to say I’m condemning his criticism of the Pope.
Considering the Popes statement makes a person wonder how bright he really is. The question of “Equality” has been pondered by many philosophers over the years and probably will never be resolved. Even if you provide each and every human with the same footing at the start over time and in the long run the results will vary greatly.
“The glory days of the Church were the 13th century. That’s the model this pope is invoking — no capitalism, no individual initiative for profit, everything (theoretically) for the good of the social order as defined by the Church. “
Not so long ago ( before the Drug Cartels became the government) Mexico was completely subjugated by the RC Church. All you had to do is drive through all the dirt poor outlying towns and villages and the one thing that struck you was the relative opulence of the local RC Church building. The Church was bleeding an abjectly poor populace and with it’s doctrines, kept them all barefoot and pregnant. Shameful.
1. Francis is a Jesuit for crying out loud. Of course he doesn’t care for western capitalism. This was coming, it was just a matter of time.
2. Rush is an entertainer for crying out loud. His stock is ratings.

In paragraph 56 of the document, the Pope condemns deficit spending.
There is a little bit for everyone in the work—which is to say, that most people will either find the parts that they are already practicing and ignore the other parts, or alternatively find something that they cannot comprehend, rip it out of context, and ignore the rest.
Calling the document pure Marxism is bombastic nonsense.
