IRS pushes to rein in tax-exempt political groups

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration Tuesday launched a bid to rein in the use of tax-exempt groups for political campaigning.

The effort is an attempt to reduce the role of loosely regulated big-money political outfits like GOP political guru Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS and the pro-Obama Priorities USA.

The Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department said they want to prohibit such groups from using "candidate-related political activity" like running ads, registering voters or distributing campaign literature as activities that qualify them to be tax-exempt "social welfare" organizations.

The agencies say there will be a lengthy comment period before any regulations will be finalized. That means groups like Crossroads and Priorities USA will be able to collect millions of dollars from anonymous donors ahead of next year's campaign.

...

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., was skeptical of the administration's move.

"There continues to be an ongoing investigation, with many documents yet to be uncovered, into how the IRS systematically targeted and abused conservative-leaning groups," he said. "This smacks of the administration trying to shut down potential critics."

It looks like the Gestapo will be coming after the TEA Party and conservatives for the 2014 election again. Just damn. Talk about abuse of power. The Soetoro regime is the most abusive government ever on this planet.

Tough election’s coming up.

0Care does this for the Dims, so they now want to "reign in" any Pubbie groups.

You state that the Soetoro regime is the most abusive government ever on the planet in the same paragraph that you mention the word Gestapo ... tell that to 6 million dead Jews.

The Soetoro regime has drawn a bead on a lot more than 6 million.

What’s the problem. A non profit will pay income to its workers which gets taxed. Most of the money in a non profit is spent on expenses and staff labor. there should be little left over for profit at year’s end. I understand for profit corporations can level up and down years to adjust taxation down. If political groups like the Tea Party chose not to be non profit organizations, they could bypass the daunting scrutiny, no? Why the need to be a non profit? What am I missing?

Soetero and his ilk have aborted millions more than Hitler ever killed.

Soetero is moving into the same league as Hitler and Stalin.

Obama’s Gestapo will be used to silence the conservative even if it means sacrificing some of the leftists (they have a lot more of them and more money than the Tea Party and other such groups).

It will be up to the Republicans in the House to pull the funding reigns on the IRS and to set up a Select House Committee to monitor it.

Can you imagine the level of outrage there’d be if this were proposed under a Republican President?

Every DemoSocialist on Capitol Hill would be in front of a camera denouncing it as pure fascism, and the press would have a field day that wouldn’t end for years.

Just wondering . . . if a poll tax is unconstitutional, doesn’t it follow that a tax on political speech would also be unconstitutional?

It’s an argument, anyway.

You’re exactly right.

We must keep in mind that most Progressives saw absolutely nothing wrong with the IRS targeting of Tea Party and other conservative groups. They are our enemy.

If it weren't for double standards, the left wouldn't have any standards at all.

That’s one of the ways they are able to survive. They can’t stand on their own merit. As you know.
