Mother and 3 children found dead in Parsons; suspect sought

A Parsons woman and her three children have been found dead, and police have identified a 22-year-old man as a suspect in the case.
The Kansas Attorney General’s Office identified the victims as Cami Umbarger, 29, and her three minor children.
The suspect was identified as David Cornell Bennett, Jr., of Cherryvale.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said Bennett, 22, was spotted in Independence about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at a Dollar General store on the west side of town. He was described as black, 5-foot-5 and 145 pounds. He was wearing a blue jeans, a black jacket and a purple hooded sweatshirt underneath a ball cap. The sheriff’s office said he should be considered armed and dangerous.
The Parsons Police Department, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies are investigating. Authorities are not saying how the victims died.
Parsons police told the Parsons Sun that they received a call on Monday from concerned co-workers who said they were worried because a 29-year-old woman failed to show up for work. Police said the woman’s children, an 8-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl, also were missing.
Parsons is approximately 125 miles southeast of Wichita in Labette County.

One of them may have been his, probably not the eight year old. Not that a 14 YO cannot father a child but that a 14 year old is highly unlikely to hang around with the same woman long enough to be 22.
