Some of the questions and tests I have seen are nearly undecipherable.<<<

I personally think that's the point. Force the kids to rely on the teacher.

Indeed. The purpose is to confuse and confound, such that the students give up and beg the helpful educrats, government navigators, and other agents of the commie regime to lead the way. Grind their developing psyches into the dirt and then hold out the benevolent, merciful hand of salvation.

The end is not yet because the millstone factories are backlogged with orders from on High.

No wonder the kids gagged.

One teacher reported that a student kept banging his head on the desk, and wrote, ‘This is too hard,’ and ‘I can’t do this,’ throughout his test booklet.

Most posters here have already identified the problem. It isn't that the kids are stupid or lazy, it's that the test is probably designed so there is no correct answer, and this is what is causing the confusion and visceral reaction in the kids.

I'd say the test is working EXACTLY as intended.

From what I've seen, Common Core seems to be more of a psychological tool to push kids into reliance on the teacher and other "authority" figures.

That's part of it. They also develop a dependence on each other. I'm not sure they get the confidence that comes with having mastered something.

That's from my limited exposure to the materials that were being phased in last year.

Common Core is not about “minimal academic standards in arithmetic and English”; it is a propaganda vehicle of the left.

Yipes! I must say I never heard that song before. And I’ve been around for a long time.

It’s the new new math. And I expect the old results

Good analogy.

Since the Progressives took control of the American educational system [there really was none prior to the 1890's], the result has been a progressive [pun intended] race to the bottom. Hundreds of curricula have been implemented. Hundreds of methods tried -- can you say "whole word"?

Yet, the results grew worse.

The problem is that the theory behind the American education system is flawed. Education cannot be democratic. Some children are brighter than others.

But that cannot be admitted. The bright ones must be short-changed and the dim ones must be forced to fight above their weight.

It can't work.

If Matthew has 4 mommies and 2 daddies and they marry 3 mommies and 4 daddies, how many mommies and daddies does Matthew have?

That's easy. He has one daddy and one mommy.

Of course I didn't have the benefit of a brainwashing course in school.

We know that many children cried during or after testing, and others vomited or lost control of their bowels or bladders. Others simply gave up. One teacher reported that a student kept banging his head on the desk, and wrote, ‘This is too hard,’ and ‘I can’t do this,’ throughout his test booklet.

Sorry, I don't buy this. As much as I hate Common Core, school children have been taking standardized tests for as long as I can remember.

“The problem is that the theory behind the American education system is flawed. Education cannot be democratic. Some children are brighter than others.”

That’s it in a nutshell, and it merits repeating often. For the most part, we are not educating in public schools, we are just running feel-gooderies, and sometimes offering babysitting services while the charges are too young to go to jail or to jobs that could now be done by machines. And this goes for many private schools too.

Maybe the kids should toughen up a little.

It teaches kids to get used to failing at a young age. Educated in that manner who would ever start a small business if they had nothing but their own thoughts to rely on. These kids are not being taught to think but to blindly follow orders.

These kids are not dumb but they will believe they are. They and their teachers are being set up for failure.

This is a crime that will shadow these kids for life. It is mental rape. My teacher told me that.
