Boeing has issued a formal request for proposals (RFP) to 15 locations around the United States that will bid for the work of building its forthcoming 777X jet, according to a source close to the discussions.
Washington state is one of the 15 sites under consideration. The others include both existing Boeing locations and new greenfield sites, the source said.
Boeing spokesman Doug Alder confirmed Saturday that the RFPs were sent out late Friday afternoon and into the evening.

Wanna bet that the site to be chosen is not on that list? Its the way corporations do things while they cut their deal with the future winner. Keeps speculators out of the loop and unions out of their hair. The winner will be the state that kicks in with the most perks and tax bennies. Its money that talks. Factories can be built anywhere.
Actually, Navy, not Air Force. And the city always owned it. When the Navy moved out, they let the basements of several buildings flood and chopped the landing light wires underwater in the lake to vandalize the place before they let it revert back to the city.
Why would they want to go to California? Costs ( utility, etc) are soooo much higher..
As a shareholder, I hope Boeing picks South Carolina. It would increase margins and profitability.
Agreed, I believe the union in CA would be tickled to work with Boeing to save jobs there.
It’s a good possibility the new commie NLRB of 0bama’s will get involved.
Roswell, NM is a fantastic place. America still grasps to life there.
Problem with 777X production would come from the fact that we are talking final assembly rather than true production here. Lots of parts made overseas, being shipped in, and, then combined for the final product. Makes a far inland place like Roswell not so good considering trucking wings and other sum-assemblies in from Houston or Galveston.
Long Beach, with its infrastructure, would seem an ideal place for such a project but the union seems dead set against gaining any further work. Pity. So Cal could use it.
One must understand that we aren't talking about huge factories where they build the whole plane from the ground up.
The 777 is built in subunits (about 50,000 SUBUNITS) that (currently) are built in a variety of countries.
Here, for example, is a chart showing the countries that build subunits for the 787.
He's got a lot of Texas Enterprise $$ to offer and the old/retired (/) Kelly AFB, adjacent to Randolph AFB, is there (San Antone).
Heh heh...
True, however, that would not exclude anywhere along the great lakes or Mississippi.
With a mayor being one of obama’s butt buddies and socialist pals?
Wholly crap why so much outsourcing? Is the Euro community holding Boeing hostage? “Better let us in on the action, otherwise good luck selling your planes to Euro Airlines”??
I hate GE but certainly they could be building engines vs what I assume is Rolls Royce?
What about Pratt and Whitney engines?
Yes, that seems to be the prevailing sentiment - not an abundance of good paying jobs here, these days.
A compromise to political reality that Boeing sells to many of these countries. "See we're practically Japanese/Turkish/Chinese etc anyway..."
The bottom 4 on that list make sense. The first two have a good talent pool available, but the Government regulations and taxes in those States should dissuade anyone from building new factories in those areas. Also, the Unions probably also are dominant in those two areas - thus providing another strong reason to pick from the bottom four.
A$$wipe interstate free trade is what it is all about. I have no clue what you are insinuating with your insipid post.
