Some parents in Dupo, Ill. are not happy that a biography of President Barack Obama is required reading for fourth-graders. They say the book contains a host of controversial elements, not least of which is that it casts white Americans who disagree with Obamas politics as racist.
Fourth-grade students at Bluffview Elementary School were instructed that they would be tested and graded on the books contents, reports EAGnews.org.
The book, called simply Barack Obama, is published by Lerner Publications. The author, Jane Sutcliffe, appears to specialize in these kinds of biographies. She has written similar titles about Jesse Owens, Ronald Reagan, Sacagawea and Milton Hershey.
The kerfuffle about the book originally bubbled up through a Facebook page called Moms Against Duncan (MAD). The group actively opposes implementation of the Common Core curriculum.
EAGNews notes that the Obama book is part of Scholastics Reading Counts program and an acceptable title under the Common Core State Standards Initiative, which attempts to standardize various K-12 curricula around the country.
You can view a sample of the bio on Google Books.
The book continually identifies Obama on a first-name basis. It bizarrely blames the evils of television for learning ways to be black that are hilariously caricatured, stereotypical and negative.
When Barry looked in the mirror, he saw a young black man. But he didnt know how to be black. And no one was there to teach him.
He decided to act like the black characters he saw on TV. He started acting tough. He cursed. Was that what it meant to be black?
As he got older, he started smoking and drinking. He tried drugs. Was that what it meant to be black?
Its not clear if Sutcliffe purposefully conflates being a black American with acting tough, cussing, smoking and drinking and doing drugs.
Sutcliffe is white, according to her Amazon.com author page.
The Obama biography goes on to charge that white Americans did not want to vote for Obama because of his skin color. However, it neatly explains, Americas 44th president was able to bring everybody together in blissful unity.
But some people said Americans werent ready for that much change. Sure Barack was a nice fellow, they said. But white voters would never vote for a black president. Other angry voices were raised. Baracks former pastor called the country a failure. God would damn the United States for mistreating its black citizens, he said.
The book then recounts Obamas March 2008 speech about race.
Barack decided it was time to speak to Americans about race, the next paragraph pedantically explains. Black people and white people were too often angry with one another. All people were going to have to work together to solve the countrys problems. Only in that way could Americans make a more perfect United States.
Its not clear if the books author believes the United States is now more perfect some six years into the Obama presidency.
Not a shred of narcissism from the guy at all.

I always hear that about every president and roll my eyes. This time I actually wonder. I cant decide if he wants to remain in the office, or if he would be satisfies with installing a one party government, letting another step in, and he remain some dear leader emeritus.
(freeing him to solely hug children, smoke, go on vacations, and golf)
There sure are a lot of teachers/education bureaucrats that could use a good scourging.
Barack decided it was time to speak to Americans about race”
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
There’s not enough White Guilt. They need more to justify confiscating money and property and giving it to slackers who vote democrat.
Wait until the kids get my book on Barry. They’ll have to expand the vocabulary quite a bit!
That book has no business being used in a school. It is racist. Obama is racist. He complains of sterotypes that caused him to act and be angry at whites. What does he think is happening when blacks target white kids and beat them up? A lot more of that happening, very little the other way around. So... blacks now (and for the last few decades) are inherently more racist particularly since they assault whites in ever increasing incidents. And Obama is a racist for fomenting more attacks by indoctrinating young black children.
Messianic figureheads come a dime a dozen - the MSM can whip one up in the time it takes to deliver a convention keynote address.
Its the army of unelected bureaucrats behind it that are calling the shots. And except for an increasing leftwing radicalism they haven't changed for 75 years.
“But he didnt know how to be black. And no one was there to teach him.”
.... Frank Marshall ...
I thought Reagan was great. I suppose I wouldn’t have minded favorable studies about him. Reagan loved this nation. He saw it as a shining city on a hill.
Obama is not great. He is a small vindictive man. I do mind favorable studies about him. He hates this nation. He sees it as the worst influence globally since we became a global player.
He’d rather have Muslim Brotherhood advisers than sound citizen advisers.
The guy has been damaged goods for a long long time.
He is unqualified, unfit, and probably not even a legally candidate for the position he holds. I’m not even sure he’s qualified to be on U. S. soil.
Look at the deterioration of this nation since he came on board. At some point, even the dumbest have to begin to ask questions of themselves.
4th grade isn’t too young to learn “liar”, “traitor”, “thief”, “tyrant”, “murderer” ...
Might be a bit young for “faggot”, although I think I knew that word by 9 or 10 yo.
Indoctrination and programming whites to believe they are racist, so when they are the victim of the “knockout” game, they will feel that they deserve it.
So ...Barry was raised by racists.
In today’s America, there is nothing controversial about saying all whites are racist.
Heck, that’s just a given.
I wonder if the book says anything about Blacks attacking Whites and laughing about it.
I never used to be one but I think I’m quickly turning that corner.
It took parents to point out this book? Is the entire school system so corrupt that this pile of bias is allowed to brainwash the kids, without question?
I would bet a lot more white people have racist thoughts after 5 years of Obama. Not to mention Al Sharpton, Travon, the “knock out game”, etc.
