I visited Ty Wood's grave site today. It's not the first time I have been there but it is the first time I have taken a photo.
I am at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery often and I do not plan to let this brave man's death be forgotten.

...can you decode some of the language on the stone?Well, I'm an old retired Army guy and most Navy speak is foreign to me, but I'll try.
SOCS: His rating/rank. I know Ty was a SEAL and that he retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer, but I'm just not positive what it means exactly.
BSM: Bronze Star Medal. Ty was awarded this with a "V", denoting valor, for operations while on active duty.
NCOM: Non-Commissioned Officers Medal. Awarded for achievements within the NCO ranks.
NAM: Navy Achievement Medal. Awarded for superior achievement/performance during tenure, not necessarily during war or peace.
And the two dates, of course, are date of birth and date of death.
Hope that helps.
(And I hope I'm right...some of the Navy acronyms don't necessarily match up to Army, as far as awards and decorations. In any event, I mean absolutely no disrespect to this warrior, who has been disrespected enough by the US State Department and that POS in the White Hut.)

Fighting the enemies of Israel has its rewards with her King, too.

Acronyms suck.
You got half of them right.

NCOM: Non-Commissioned Officers Medal. Awarded for achievements within the NCO ranks.I stand corrected.
That is a Navy Commendation Medal.
While not intending to denigrate the award, in the Army the NCO medal is really not all that, that it would be put on a headstone. I should have known better.
Normally, it is the top three awards that are on the headstone, so that makes much more sense to me.
My apologies, again.

My apologies.
Absolutely no disrespect intended.
But I have never been able to make sense of the Navy ratings unless I saw the actual patch on the arm.
Even then I didn't know an Electrician's Mate from a Radio Man.

Thanks. I was at Mt. Soledad last Memorial Day for the dedication of that plaque. I enjoyed hearing Mrs. Dorothy Woods rip into Hillary and Obama with her comments. That's her in the short black dress.
