A bitterly divided Senate voted Thursday to ease the confirmation process for most presidential nominees, a momentous and potentially risky step that limits the ability of Republicans to block President Barack Obama's choices for executive-branch and most judicial posts.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) engineered the rules change, over Republican objections, with a complicated parliamentary maneuver that ended up placing new curbs on the use of the filibustera move so controversial that it is often called the "nuclear option."
"The American people believe Congress is broken. The American people believe the Senate is broken It's time to change the Senate before this institution becomes obsolete," Mr. Reid said.
The key vote was 52-48, with all but three Democrats voting for the change and all Republicans opposed. Democratic Sens. Carl Levin of Michigan, Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Joe Manchin of West Virginia broke from their party and voted against changing the rules.

And, you use them to confiscate the Abrams.
Everyone re-read that and remember it.
In the near future, your life will depend on employing that strategy and similar ones.
It's 1940 - and we're all Jews here in Fascist Amerika. They ARE going to employ a final solution to us.
Mark. My. Words.
You cannot fire federal judges without an impeachment trial for cause....they have lifetime appointments.
People in the masses do not realize what a danger Valerie and her lackeys BO and HR have created.
Most have no clue or idea what is at stake - or what is about to happen to us all.
After subjugation, comes extermination.
Sadly - most assume such a thing can never happen here.
Truthfully - it’s already well underway but the majority choose not to see it.
Heads in the sand, just like millions in Europe who refused to accept what was about to happen to them.
How about this: Suppose the Republicans on the appropriate committees challenge every nominee with tough questions; expose their radical leanings or background; expose why a particular nominee is not qualified, etc., etc. Do it in the same way that the RATs did it to John Tower and Judge Bork. Get nasty. Might this not push some Democrat senators into not voting for a particular nominee? I’m just looking for ways that this could be turned on the Democrats.
The GOP has no stones or spines to even THINK about what you suggest, much less actually do it.
This will never be turned on the Democrat Fascists. McConnell already said as much. He said they will revert the rules back if the GOP wins the Senate next year.
It’s a single party dictatorship people.
UNDERSTAND please.
The GOP Ruling Class are Judenrats for the MarxoFascists.
Current Republican Senators who were in favor Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist’s proposal to exercise the “nuclear option” in 2005 under the theory that every George W. Bush judicial nominee deserved a simple up or down vote:
Orrin Hatch (R-UT)
Thad Cochran (R-MS)
Chuck Grassley (R-IA)
Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
Richard Shelby (R-AL)
Jim Inholf (R-OK)
Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
Mike Enzi (R-WY)
Mike Crapo (R-ID)
Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)
Saxby Chambliss (R-GA)
Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
John Cornyn (R-TX)
Richard Burr (R-NC)
Tom Coburn (R-OK)
John Thune (R-SD)
Johnny Isakson (R-GA)
David Vitter (R-LA)
Current Republican Senators who were against changing the filibuster rules in both 2005 and in 2013 (members of the Gang of 14):
John McCain (R-AZ)
Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
Susan Collins (R-ME)
Already got ‘em.
God help us if it comes to that.
I heard about what McConnell said, but I have faith in the people of Kentucky that he will have nothing to say about it.
The Cook County machine has taken over a bunch of the local yellow-dog Democrat machines out here.
In 2012 - I watched staunch Conservative counties and precincts trounce nearly every single Republican running in that election.
You cannot put your faith in people when the system itself is corrupted because the people have little or no say so. The machine decides.
Absolutely. I remember this also
Iran is going nuclear and there is nothing we are going to do about it. Mark my words.
Perhaps Israel will, but I don’t think so. This horse left the barn a long time ago.
What we are going to get now is some kind of agreement along the lines of what was done with North Korea in the Nineties, where Iran will get to practice taqiyya with all sincerity, and we (the USA and the rest of the world) are going to let them.
Events are rushing headlong, getting faster and faster and time is shorter and shorter. It feels like the 1930’s to me, or 1914 all over again.
I fully agree.
The GOP in both chambers should walk out and demand the reversal of this rule change before they come back.
No funding the government, no quorum, no nothing until this rule is reversed.
We can’t be playing by two sets of rules.
The ones the dems break over and over, and the same ones they hold us to. Time to play nasty.
That was spooky in 2010 when the GOP took back Congress but lost several senate races by a hand full of votes in each.
And I don’t think it was because we had Tea Party candidates.
I mean Reid himself was down in both the polls AND on Intrade the day before the election and he pulled it out.
Seriously that gave me real doubts about the legitimacy of most senate races.
Bingo,AppyPappy.
The Dems know how to flip the votes, find uncounted votes, and steal the votes.
JFK, the Left’s icon, stole the 1960 election.
And the Dems stole the 2012 election.
While we have fought for America before, the election of 2014 is the backstop.p
We lose that one, it is game over for America.
INVAR, you have described the exact REAL state of things in America.
It feels like 1938 must have felt in Europe.
You know the danger is approaching, but everything is normal,,so nothing bad can happen. Nothing bad will happen.
Normalcy bias in action.
Instead of punching Harry Reid in the nose, that ahole McConnell wants to punch the Tea Party in the nose.
We are already fighting on two fronts.
My kids are grown.....choose another give up line
I do not plan on lasting 20K rounds. My BOB has 600 rounds in mags ready to go. Most fire fights do not last longer than that.
I do not plan on being a sacrifice and I am not a coward. Now go get your give up flyers and stand in line with the other women.
Specifically that was 25 million evangelical Christians just as a starting point.
Obama’s “Enabling Act.”
