The White House released a letter Tuesday handwritten by President Obama .....

OBAMA'S LETTER COMMEMORATING LINCOLN'S GETTYSBURG ADDRESS
In the evening, when Michelle and the girls have gone to bed, I sometimes walk down the hall to a room Abraham Lincoln used as his office. It contains an original copy of the Gettysburg Address, written in Lincoln's own hand.
I linger on these few words that have helped define our American experiment: "a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."
Through the lines of weariness etched in his face, we know Lincoln grasped, perhaps more than anyone, the burdens required to give these words meaning. He knew that even a self evident truth was not self executing; that blood drawn by the lash was an affront to our ideals; that blood drawn by the sword was in painful service to those same ideals.
He understood as well that our humble efforts, our individual ambitions, are ultimately not what matter; rather, it is through the accumulated toil and sacrifice of ordinary men and women -- those like the soldiers who consecrated that battlefield -- that this country is built, and freedom preserved. This quintessentially self made man, fierce in his belief in honest work and the striving spirit at the heart of America, believed that it falls to each generation, collectively, to share in that toil and sacrifice.
Through cold war and world war, through industrial revolutions and technological transformations, through movements for civil rights and women's rights and workers rights and gay rights, we have. At times, social and economic change have strained our union. But Lincoln's words give us confidence that whatever trials avoid us, this nation and the freedom we cherish can, and shall, prevail.

“But Lincoln’s words give us confidence that whatever trials avoid us...”
Either he DID write it, or when he saw the word “avail” us on his computer screen he thought to himself “Avail?? Avail?? What kind of word is that? Michelle!!! Michelle!!??? Aw heck. Well, there ain’t no such word as “avail”. “Available?” No that doesn’t work. “Avast!” Arggg
“avoid”? Trials “avoid” us!! There we go. (I sure hope the trials can avoid me!!)

I believe he wrote on stationery by copying what his speech writer gave him. Another farce in history!

Dear Diary, I am so much more cool than that long dead white dude, Lincoln...
Before I am through, we'll have everyone believing I am a much greater President than him. Hell, we already have them believing old Abe was a Liberal Democrat!

I’m quite certain that Abe Lincoln was thinking of sodomite “marriage” when he wrote the Gettysburg Address. Right, Baraq.
Sigh.

Darn. I KNEW I should have looked at the handwritten letter. Obama did write down “avail”. (So - no WAY did he come up with those words.)
Speeches are all written by speech writers, and I understand that. Passing off someone else’s writing as your own is wrong. There must be numerous examples of personal letters that people have received from him over the years. Although I would look at the later letters as suspect, having been written for him.

According to the Wiki on Lincoln's speech the 'Bliss copy' of it, which Lincoln wrote down three months later, resides in the Lincoln room of the WH as is the 'standard' version most of us memorized. It includes the "under God" that all sources agree Lincoln said, although he didn't write it in the two pre-speech drafts, both of which reside at the Library of Congress. Ø claims to have read off the first draft for this Godless recording.
Aside one: I see the øne writes in cursive. His voters will be dismayed and confused.
Aside two: For comments on Gettysburg and the Address by a great and real black man, who properly appreciates both, listen to the end of this wonderful interview with Justice Thomas.

Don’t forget the Grammies for the audio versions of his books. Such awards are the modern liberals’ equivalent of Stalin’s sassy of medals.
