The federal government announced on Tuesday that it had opened an investigation into two recent battery fires in the Tesla Motors Model S sedan.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations decision came amid public speculation over the electric cars safety and the battery packs design after reports of three fires in six weeks. Two of the fires occurred on American highways when the cars hit debris in the road. A third, in Mexico, took place after a high-speed crash into a wall and a tree. The drivers in all three incidents were unhurt.
Tesla also said late on Monday that it would implement certain measures aimed at creating more ground clearance in the cars and would extend its warranty policy to cover vehicles damaged by fire.
The first Model S incident occurred Oct. 1, when the car struck a metal object on a highway in Kent, Wash., outside of Seattle. After a delay of more than two weeks because of a partial government shutdown, the agency decided the fire was not the result of a defect in the cars design and that an investigation was not necessary.

Tesla has a lot of enemies in both the Unions and Automobile Industry — particularly the retail dealerships who take umbrage at Tesla for selling their automobiles and attacking the automobile dealership paradigm.
With that in mind, I wouldn’t be surprised if the fires are faked. Not saying they are, but the battery power industry is pretty mature, having even run Submarines and heavy industrial equipment with no fires, that should have been easy for the Tesla corp.
They blowed up real good!..................
That’s my first car!...............same color, too!.............
