Some drivers along a busy Fort Worth street on Friday were stopped at police roadblock and directed into a parking lot, where they were asked by federal contractors for samples of their breath, saliva and even blood.
It was part of a government research study aimed at determining the number of drunken or drug-impaired drivers.
"It just doesn't seem right that you can be forced off the road when you're not doing anything wrong," said Kim Cope, who said she was on her lunch break when she was forced to pull over at the roadblock on Beach Street in North Fort Worth
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which is spending $7.9 million on the survey over three years, said participation was "100 percent voluntary" and anonymous.
But Cope said it didn't feel voluntary to her -- despite signs saying it was. "I gestured to the guy in front that I just wanted to go straight, but he wouldn't let me and forced me into a parking spot," she said

An agency spokeswoman sent an email confirming the government is conducting the surveys in 30 cities across the country in an effort to reduce impaired-driving accidents.

Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!
To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you must threaten to report me to the Mods if I don't add you to the list...
I would like to see a class action lawsuit against the federal government agency responsible for this.
Also some organization to educate people that this is unconstitutional and they do not have to comply, and non-compliance is NOT a crime, so that people don’t get intimidated.
Texas - stay free.

So, who can do something about it! I’m MAD about this!
Please add me to the Texas ping list. Thanks!
Greg Abbott probably has the biggest stick, since he can file suit in federal court on behalf of Texas. He can also tell the FWPD to knock it off.
Call or email all your elected reps, federal and state, and our AG. Insist this be stopped.
Contact your list of vocal hotheads and wind them up to call their reps. Numbers count, lots of us need to hollar.
/johnny
Correct.
Thanks for the ping!
This cannot stand in Texas.
As you say, calling everyone’s electeds must happen now, to make it clear that not correcting this will lead to out-of-office for them.
Pinging a local hothead!!!
Seriously, nan, if you haven’t seen this, you need to read the article and write or call any rep you can think of. I’ve already contacted several.
We CANNOT let this stand in Texas, and we need to MAKE THEM PAY for trying it!
Great.
And they discharge weapons in your children's direction. Good thing you left the dog at home.
I agree that is the real question Fort Worth Republicans need to be asking in upcoming elections for city counsel and police chief.
Why are Fort Worth Police officers wasting time harassing Texas Citizens for ‘voluntary’ tests.
If The Federal Government wants to throw money away on useless study’s let them advertise to recruit actual volunteers. They have no legitimate need for Texas police much less diverting Busy Texans from their day to day activity.
You didn’t watch the video.
The motorist are handed a piece of paper that states in fine print that they were scanned surreptitiously for BAC by breath analyzer on FIRST contact, with or without permission.
The motorist were motioned into a parking lot without an opportunity to choose compliance or not. The whole thing stinks. Using uniformed cops and marked cars makes pulling over an involuntary act.
Are you defending this?
Make some calls, send some emails and see if we can get our elected officials to put a stop to this crap
We can write letters, phone in, post on websites and do a whole host of other useless actions but the only action that works IS TO VOTE THEM OUT.
Only then, when they see their fellow Marxists being thrown out of office will they ever begin to fear of losing their permanent jobs.
Hot air, papers with scribbling on them, telephone calls etc... produces nothing physical and ONLY physical action to vote them out is the only cure for the cancer that is killing our freedoms and liberty.
Not defending it, but correcting misstatements of the law.
I'll call people that I have developed relationships with and make my voice heard, including reminding them of the vote next year.
I know I'll get more results than someone that thinks melting down phone lines is useless.
Your 'useless' meme sorta got disproved during the shutdown, when phonecalls and emails actually moved elected officials to act.
/johnny
Private letters and phone calls didn’t accomplish anything. The outrage of the public as actually seen and reported by media was the only thing that moved them.
It’s like roaches and other vermin...when the light is turned on they all seek shelter.
These elected maggots always expect millions of calls and form letters on a regular basis. If you think they read them, I have some waterfront property for sale at a very good price in Arizona.
Right this minute, John Cornyn is in a panic over his upcoming election and is doing everything he can to prove that he is 'conservative'. You bet he's listening.
And no, they don't get 'millions' of calls and emails. Because people like you think it doesn't do any good.
Why don't you go elsewhere and not try to discourage people from making their voice heard.
